Sleep training with a toddler in tow
« on: April 14, 2010, 20:02:35 pm »
Hi,

I have an 8 week old son who I feel would really benefit from the Pat/Ssh method.
However, what I wanted to ask was..how do people manage to do this or, in fact, any sort of sleep training on a baby when they also have a young demanding toddler in the house.  My toddler would not be able to entertain herself for anywhere near long enough for me to carry out this method and I do not have anyone relatives/friends willing to entertain her. Just wondered what other people have done in the same situation?
Thanks a lot.

You might want to have a look at this board: http://babywhispererforums.com/index.php?board=20.0  There are lots of tips from mamas who have btdt.  From my personal experience, I would say that the most important thing is to make sure that you don't expect too much too soon - it's not the same as sleep training with one, and it does take longer, so don't be hard on yourself if he is not on a perfect routine and sleeping independently straightaway.  dd1 was on a routine by the time she was 3 weeks old (perfect angel baby - so easy!), but dd2 was nearer 5 or 6 months before we had a properly predictable routine.
