Hi,
Just chipping in....my lo is nearly 20 months and he still is not consistent with his naps. he does anything from 1.20-2 hours (I wake at 2 hours)
we went through about 3-4 weeks when he was doing 2 hours every day but it then changed back to 1.20-1.30 and that seems to be where it is at the mo. i agree with kayra. if he is happy enough then try to push the day back a bit. That is what I am in the process of doing.

I have often found it frustrating that my DS sleeps varying amounts for naps, and like you I cannot often see why.....but my DH sometimes has to remind me that DS is not a machine  :-[ - he is a little person who sleeps different amounts depending on many factors - how his night was, whether he is teething, how he is feeling, where he is sleeping, what activities he has been doing etc etc!!  There are some Mummies on this board whose lo's *do* seem to sleep a consistent amount every night and every nap - but I think that they are in the minority from what I can see.  Most people seem to have some variation from day-to-day and week-to-week.  So as much as you can stick to a good routine, but perhaps try to slightly change your expectations so that it doesn't feel such a problem when he does things a bit differently? (I'm speaking from experience here  ;)).

Ours vary between 45mins-3 hours. DD sleeps more when her routine is consistent but we have been thrown a curve ball over the last 2 weeks with teething and some SA and she barely sleeps during the day.

Having said that, being on one sleep works much better for both of us, when she was on 2 sleeps they were so inconsistent and she never seemed well rested. now if she sleeps over 1.5 hours the afternoon is a happy one.

I always feel in the minority with my "real life" friends, so it's great to hear others who have kids that have varying naps lengths. He is happy, and for now, our nights are in tact :) We'll press on and maybe one day be one of those in the minority who gets a consistent nap out of my LO ( ha ha, never gonna happen!!!!)

We have been very lucky with naps, and well-deserved after the first 12 mths of total shenanigans lol, so we get 2.5-3 hrs on weekends.  He usually does 2 hrs at daycare now.  And it's very rare that it's any shorter, unless it's in the car or on the go.

But nights - well don't get me started.  I would almost trade an inconsistent nap for a solid wake time.  This kid is all over the map and yes, *sigh*, still EW.

So they are just really different individual really :-)
The tweaking never stops!

Hey there

just wanted to chip in and say my dd is exactly the same with wake times and naptimes varying and I just go with it...the great thing is that with the set times their bodies adjust themselves to sleep what they need - if she is a little OT one day I know that she will usually adapt the next day and have a good one! I honestly would stick with your routine because its working so well for you and maybe try to just push that set naptime on to 12pm and bed at 7pm - I did this nad eventually pushed it out to 12.30 nap and 7.30 bed meaning that an EW is a much better 6 - 6.15 am but very rarely I get these (tho I did get a 4.30 ??? this morning but luckily got her back down!!!!!)...

there is always something in the mix to change things so as long as you are doing your bit putting him to sleep he will decide what he needs and will be just fine!!

I hear of alot of toddlers with alot less sleep than the average 13 hours per day! A man at my workplace tells me that his toddler same age as my DD sleeps just at night 8 until 6.30 and they think its great! and strangely enough she is a very happy little girl!! Remember also that women do not tell the real story because they want to be seen as super mummys - I bet his wife

sorry that was meant to say I bet his wife would say she is a great sleeper and sleeps all night so you would assume a nap in the day and a 11 - 12 hour night!

I wish I realised this alot sooner!!

you are doing great!
