7 month DD is EW for 3 months now.....love help! xx
« on: May 03, 2010, 23:18:22 pm »
hello

this is my first post! have been reading these posts and it has been amazing......i am in NZ and have a beautiful 7month DD, Zita.
she is textbook/perhaps a little spirited too!
she slef weaned at 12 weeks-very emotional! and has been on solids since 5.5 months wolfs it down and has maintined even increased her milk mls since solids came on board. she was 45cm when born and now is 75cm so has done a lot of growing!

for the last 3 months we have had EW's!! approx 530am initally a routine tweak by myslef of ridding the catnap helped for approx 1 week then it returned......i have done W2 sleep too x2 for 4-5 nights which again helped for 3 days or so....but the EW's returned. she returns to sleep 30min later and then back to sleep again for 20 min sometimes otherwsie she will be up form 550am...in he cot. she doesnt cry babbles and bangs that cot just so we know she is there i guess!

she is ( i think!) quite good with her A time......and well really need your help. she is rolling back to tummy sits very well and starting to 'rock'. no teeth-as yet but big thick gums! none of these devlopments have affected her sleeping per say.....
tho the last 4 days her afternoon sleep has been cut short to approx 40 mins and there have been crying associated with this wake up.

she is independent sleeper has a buuny/lovie and i have been able to put down for a nap/bedtime sleep without any intervention since week 8! basically 'by bye love you see u after your sleep' and down she goes....

here is EASY
645am awake if has retunrned to sleep form her EW!
E 7am bottle 200ml 815 breakfast cereal with purred fruit
A tummy time++ rocking sitting exersacuer read to her+++ she loves her books peeka boo etc
S 945/10am nb any earlier than this she wakes at 1 hour 10/15

E 1130 bottle 180-200mls
lunch 1230/1pm veges fruit sippy cup
acivity eg trip to town meet playfriends walk to the park etc
S approx 3 hours from last up///so 230

note this sleep only been 40 min wakes crying last few days

E330/345 bottle 160mls
A walk in buggy-espescially if wakes early from sleep yesterday she slept fro 20 min in buggy-which i sa rarity so obviosuly tired form her early afternoon wake up

Dinner at 5pm veges fruit finger food sippy

bath 6pm, bed time bottle 625 200mls alseep fro the nite 640-7pm note regardles of earlier time to bed or later time to bed she still wakes aprox 530am.

hope you can help! thank you so much xx

Hi there, sorry you haven't received a reply yet...

hmm this sounds so familiar to me..I was often wondering why she would EW. TBH, she is getting over 10.5 hours of sleep, and although it's not ideal she is getting good rest - just not to the time we would find appropriate, yk?? 7am is way better than 6am ;D

So I really think it's just a small tweaking issue...I think she's waking up early bc she really isn't tired anymore.

So the first A seems okay, no? She's giving you a good nap. Often times, my lo would be rubbing her eyes, whining, and yawning at 2 hours and half..she could probably fall asleep if I put her down but I -know- she'll short nap me. Our babies sleepy cues are often misleading as they get older - they're usually just habitual or bored. I know you're worried that she usually doesn't whimper to go to sleep, but perhaps she's just not used to the new A time. What do you think?

If the first A time is appropriate then I think it's a safe bet that you need to increase the second A by at least 15 minutes. The second A time is commonly longer than the first A time for most. A time usually increases as the day goes on...

Great job on the independent sleeping. :)

Hope that helps a bit...let me know your thoughts!

hmm did she have a good night? I'm still pretty sure she's UT..not sure why she's so unsettled :(

did you manage to get another nap in at the end of the day? Early to bed?

her first nap - did she wake up happy? Perhaps the second A time was too much for atm.We can always put her to sleep at 3 hours or a little bit after. if she gives us a short nap again (i.e. 35-45 mins) ..then at least we know it's not OT.

We'll sort through this. :)

hello,

thank you ......

no, no earlier to bed or extra catnap, i pushed her buggy to giver her the 'opportunity' but she was quite content....she fell asleep easliy.....i heard her wake at 415am but she must have resettled, and then she was baangign about in the cost at 515am, i am unsure if she went back to sleep form 415am to 515am, but she did go back to lseep till  645am. so i have just put her down at 10am, so her A time this am was 3 hour 15, and she is still yakking and roaring like a lion-her new trick ;)

ok, so today, i will put her second A time to 3 hours, and if she still wakes at 38-40min, it cant be OT??? i have also thought that perhaps she is waking up at thsi time because she is hungry, eg her 3rd bottle falls in bewteen this sleep now her A times are longer.

it seems she just isnt as tired as she used to be! up until last week she used to do 1 hour 20 am sleep and 1 hour 25 afternoon sleep and NEVER woke crying. and she doenst yawn or rub her eyes etc anyore....she has ALOT of enegery, never is still and has alway been like this, i thoguth she woud be tired out hee hee. she rally doesnt seem OT to me, but i am cocerned that she can suddenly be up till 3 hour 15 -30 and still not be tired!?

so short A time after 1st nap today huh.........xx

Hi.
It really doesn't sound like OT. Especially since she's still playing in her crib. I think, after today, if she 1) wakes up early from her first nap and 2) wakes up really early from her second nap we  can proceed to push her first A time to 3 hours and 30..or ish.

I was concerned too..but our babies are growing up and, subsequently, need less sleep. You'll find as they get older (yours is almost 7 and half!) they just don't need that much sleep during the day and would rather just sleep at night. A jump in A time is very common.

Follow your daughter's cue ...mine if she's not ready to sleep she will -cry- in her crib..and definitely short nap. If at 3 hours, she's not ready to sleep..just do some quiet activity with her and try again in 15 minutes.

Good luck for the rest of the day. Keep us posted!

hello again,

so......i pushed her first A time to 3 hour 15, and had a 1 hour 20 nap, and woke happy as she always has and does from this one. :D
in regards to her afternoon A time i pushed this to : 3 hour 30 and guess what a 38-40 min wake up....however even putting her down for this sleep she was all happy and jumpy and singing- i was kinda like, i really shouldnt have put her down  :P, so again, i need ot push this A time you think???

also, what will happen to her bedtime, as her nap will be later, will bedtime too??
and i need tp push her a.m A time out too??
and thirdly, if she has a good am sleep do i wake her for her 4 hourly bottle or do i let her sleep on as she is on 3 good solids meals a day too xx
thank you!!! xx

Oh my!! I think so! Did she have an EW this morning? They do jump their As quite quickly without warning..in our house, 38-40 minutes is usually UT.
Maybe another 15 minutes?

also, what will happen to her bedtime, as her nap will be later, will bedtime too??

You can do that (later bedtime).Or you'll need to cut one of the naps. If she's not giving you an EW, then you can stick with the 40 minute afternoon nap and she should be okay until bedtime. How was she yesterday?

and i need tp push her a.m A time out too??

As she gets older and approaches the 4 hour A..she'll be transitioning to the 2-1. Where two naps become 1. However, it takes months for them to be able to handle 1 nap. It'll probably be 1 long nap (either AM or PM) and one short nap (AM or PM)..whatever time works for you and your dd.

and thirdly, if she has a good am sleep do i wake her for her 4 hourly bottle or do i let her sleep on as she is on 3 good solids meals a day too

You'll  have to start getting creative. No, don't wake her as she's able to go a little longer than 4 hours now without a feed. I sometimes have to feed her before her second nap to fit in all the feeds.

There are sample routines in the solids forum on how to fit feeds I believe.

HTH!

hello!

success! we had a 11.45 sleep last nite!! she slept form 7pm til 645am, :D. thank you so much for your help! i suspect she maybe quite likes the 40 min afternoon sleep......i will try to keep her am sleep 1.5 hour approx....gosh, does it seem young at 7.5 months that she is only having a long pm and already short am??

will this change whenshe gets mobile? eg will she have shorter A times as she will tire more easily?

ok, i have looked at the 6-12 month samples, so it is ok to feed before a nap? kinda thought that 'against' the rules hee hee, so you wouldnt suggest 3 bottles ?

also one more Q! ;).....how long are most littles ones one nap when they do go to one nap? on 'average' of couse ;)

thank you, u have been 'A'-mazing! hee hee pun intended xx

Hi there!

success! we had a 11.45 sleep last nite!! she slept form 7pm til 645am,

That's wonderful! Thank you for that great piece of news. I'm really pleased for you and our dd.

does it seem young at 7.5 months that she is only having a long pm and already short am??

It is young, but again A times appropriate for this age are just averages. My lo started doing one long nap and one short nap around 8 months. She's still doing it except I'm not sure it's working now :P

will this change whenshe gets mobile? eg will she have shorter A times as she will tire more easily?

either get a bit less or stay the same really. I've been testing this with my lo and she gets a bit tired, but nothing too drastic.

ok, i have looked at the 6-12 month samples, so it is ok to feed before a nap? kinda thought that 'against' the rules hee hee, so you wouldnt suggest 3 bottles ?

;D I felt/feel the same way about that feed before nap time. It's really not feeding to sleep ..try to do 5-15 minutes of A prior to sleep. So if she feeds at 3pm, for example, you could then change her diaper and start her wind down. And that's fine. 3 bottles..not yet. Unless she starts eating less or isn't hungry at a feed..

.how long are most littles ones one nap when they do go to one nap? on 'average' of couse Wink

I think about 1.5-2 hours usually. :)

thank you, u have been 'A'-mazing! hee hee pun intended

;D Funny! It was really you and your dd that did all the hard work. So happy for you guys :) Keep it up!

Sure thing...

WU: 6am
E: 7am
A:6 - 9:05ish
S:9:05-10:20
E: 11am
A:10:20-1:30ish
S:1:30-2:15 (I would often sh pat..and this would take me 10-20 mins and then she may/may not sleep until 3:30)
E: when she woke up
E: again before bed
S:6:30-6:45

This was my routine..it's a not great one, though and in hindsight I should've done more activity with her.

Now:
WU: 6:30
BF:7:30
A:6:30-9:55ish
S: I get anywhere from 1.05-1.30 usually
E:11:45
A: 11:20(est)- 3
S:3-3:40
E: sometimes before, if she's not tired yet. Sometimes after
A:3:40-7:15
S: 7:15

I hope that helps...:)
