Average length of activity times for 22month old?
« on: May 15, 2010, 21:26:38 pm »
Hi,

I'm really strugglin with DD's routine at the moment.

6-6.30 wake
11.30 lunch
12.00 nap (around 12.30 when she's at daycare 2 times a week)
1.30 wake her from her nap
5.00 dinner
7.30 bed

I'm trying to get her to sleep in a little bit more in the morning, but don't know how to jiggle things around.

I just wondered what the average activity time in the morning and afternoons are?

Thanks
Rachel

Our routine for last few months (my LO is 24 months now) has been:

8am Wake up
1pm Nap  (2-2.30 hour nap)
3/3.30pm Wake up
8/8.30pm  Bed

I think you may get a better nap on slightly less A time.  6-12.30 on day care days or even 6-12pm is at least 6 hours.  My LO would struggle to keep that up on a regular basis but it does depend on whether you LO is low sleep needs or not.

Does she sleep ok at night?

HTH xx

Hi,  yep that's what I thought.

It's taking ages for her to settle when she goes to bed at night and in fact for her nap too.  Maybe she's OT?  She never looks tired before I put her down though  ???

So on the days when she's woken up early, should I try and put her down for a nap early?

I would.  My LO can manage 6/7 hours A time and will just keep going but I know she's OT as she takes forever to settle for any sleep whereas when she gets 5/5.5 at most she goes right to sleep.  I think beyond that she just goes into overdrive and its really hard for her to wind down IYKWIM.  I used to say she was like an energizer bunny and just couldn't switch off!

If she's up early I would try putting her down at 5.5 hours and just see does it help you get a better nap.  My LO needs 2 hours nap time or else is really OT by bed and early bedtimes here don't really work as she doesn't seem to make up for lost day time sleep at night, just wakes 11.5 hours after falling asleep!

That's fab advice, thank you so much.

I'm going to try that today.  I don't think there's any chance in this world of getting her down for an earlier bedtime, so instead of waking her from her nap after 1 1/2hours , I'l leave her for 2 hours.

Thanks again  ;)

Hi!!

Back again!!

Morning wakings seem to be getting earlier  :( :(

5.30-5.45 at the moment.  So, should I be working on 5 1/2 hours A time from whenever she wakes up?

So would it be something like this?
5.30 wake
11.00 nap for 2 hours (or should it be more??)
6.30 bed

???????

I'm so confused.  That would mean giving her lunch at 10.30!!  Unless she had a snack and then her proper lunch when she woke up.  Also a bedtime that early would be impossible.  She doesn't want to go to bed when her big brother is still up.   What shall I do??

On another note, I know I've slipped in to AP with her sleeping!!!!  So, I'm going to start WIWO.

Thanks for your help

Yes I'd do 5.5 hours from wake up.  If you're finding she's up from her nap at 1pm give lunch then and I'd personally try to get a catnap in about 4.30, even just for 30 minutes to get her through to 7.30 bedtime. How does that sound?

How is she wakening at 5.30am?  Still tired?  Happy and alert?

{{{hugs}}}  EWs are no fun for anyone xx

Hi,

Last night was totally different  :D

She woke at 5.30am.
(I had a doc appointment at 10.30, but she stayed awake in the car)
Put down for nap at 11.00, screamed but was asleep by 11.15.
Woke up at 2.15  happy!!   ;D
Put her to bed at 7.30 and did WI/WO, but she was asleep by 7.45  :D  (I'd realised that I'd slipped in to AP!)
Our son woke up at 2, so I took him back to bed and then checked on her and re-covered her up and slightly woke her  :-\ but she was ok.  Slept til 7!!!!! ;D ;D ;D

Thanks for your help.  It is greatly appreciated  ;)

I'll keep you posted!

Thanks!

It's bound to be a fluke though!!!  My MIL is coming over from the UK, landing on Friday night so will get here (after DH has showed her around Sydney) on Saturday night and I'm desperate for her to settle by then!!!!!
