wake up used to be 6:45 now 4:50. What gives?
« on: May 20, 2010, 11:32:46 am »
I initially posted in the naps board, but now, I think it's more have an EW waking issue than a nap issue.

I am currently back in my home town for a month, and my  14mo old son sleep has gone totally haywire. Our schedule before vacation.
A: 6:45ish sometimes 15 minutes earlier but laid in bed quietly
N: 11:45-1:45 sometimes shorter
S:6:45
we had bee doing this for a month and a half and it worked great. He was getting more sleep than he'd even gotten in a long time.

things to know:
he's teething
he's got a stuffy nose
he has got to be OT
his room is dark

We are now getting a wakeup  no later than 5:15 and today he woke at 4:20, and went back to slee until 4:50. When he wakes he mantra cries and babbles. He'll do this for upwards of an hour. Regardless of what time he wakes I never take him out of his crib until 6. Due to his EW I'm having to give him a CN, which is extending our day quite a bit.
A: 5
CN:9-9:30
S: 12-1:45/2
S:7ish

yesterday:
5am
S:11:15-12 (had an appointment so he went down late, then woke at the 45min mark babbling, and it took me an hour to get him back to sleep)
S:1-2
S: 7
S: 7

baby B 4/20/2011

If you suspect teething and OT, I would shorten that last A.  When we were doing a cat nap at that age, our last A was 4.5 hours.

Also, are you medicating at all for teething?  We kept getting EWs no matter what when my LO was teething.  It seemed that 5 am became his wake up time because he couldn't resettle.  I know others have had success with dream meds though.  Have you tried that?

We are medicating for teeth before nap, before bed as well as a dream "feed" of meds as well. It doesn't really seem to make a difference.

Truthfully, I have no idea if he's OT, I'm just assuming. Prior to vacation we were having about 13.5 hrs of  sleep in 24hrs, and now we're getting about 11.5-12. In another post I've been following the ladies did say that there is a big A jump/sleep needs change between the ages of 12-18 months and possibly his needs have changed. I really have no idea. Prior to vacation he was also making up for lost day sleep during the night, so we were frequently getting 12+ hour nights, but here he seems to be stuck at 10hr (if I'm lucky) nights.

So today of course is screwy so we'll see what we get this evening.
A: 4:50
CN: 9:10-9:35
N: 12:05-1:05
S: 6:30 (what we'll be shooting for)

He'll be having a long A time until bed time and running on an hour nap. My mom had him today and she put him down early, resulting in an UT nap I think. I can only imagine what the wake up will be tomorrow.

I apologize in advance for how short this response is - I don't have much time. But I wanted to say that my LO is very low sleep needs and he didn't drop below 13 hours until maybe 16 months.

I think you should still watch that last A and see if you get a better night.

As for your day today, an early bed does not necessarily mean an early wake time.  But that was a long A before bed, so you may get an OT EW.

we did a semi shorter A time, and he was in bed by 6.  I just can't do any earlier than that. Here's to hopping :)

I hope things get ironed out. I am so stressed and anxious over this. It is just so not like him to be up this early. To rule out everything else, I bought more black out curtains, medicated, have 2 fans going in his room for white noise and got him a blanket,. if he wakes early it's routine based I thinkHe's acting like himself, slightly more crabby, but overall a very happy little guy. Hopefully we get it all ironed out before he completely falls to pieces. I'll let you know how tonight goes.

well, after a 6pm bedtime we got a 5:20 wake up, which it's early, but it's the most ammount of night sleep he's had in a while. yippee!

As far as a nap goes I really wanted to push to one nap again (we had been doing it for over a month with great success) but I was doubtful because he was SO tired. I pushed through to 11:30 and I thought for sure we were going to get a short nap but he just passed the 2hr sleeping mark.....yay. I'll be aiming for a 5hr a time before bed and hope that yields a decent wake up tomorrow. I'll keep you posted.
