Feeding Schedule with EASY with 7.5 Months Old
« on: May 20, 2010, 13:51:39 pm »
Hello-

My son and I have been on the EASY method and he's starting to change things up a bit for us.  ::)  He normally wakes between 7-7:30a and eats
cereal/fruit around 8:00 or so.  Lately though, he's been super fussy when eating and rejects it because he is seems so hungry so I end up giving him
a bottle instead.

Even giving him just 4 oz of milk, with the hopes that he'll be hungry for solids about 9am, isn't helping. He still seems full or is just not interested in
eating.  His dinner meal with veggies he eats just fine. So it's not like he's boycotting solids all together.... just in the AM.  Can I just skip breakfast
and try giving him a lunch and dinner to get our 2 meals in for the day?  Should I change up something else? I would prefer for him to have breakfast
and dinner as opposed to 2 meals, lunch and dinner, back to back.

Any suggestions will be much appreciated.

I would for sure still do milk first thing when he wakes - milk is more important than solids at this age. If he is uninterested in breakfast it is fine to do solids at lunch and dinner - as he gets bigger and more mobile he will be getting more hungry for all his meals: including breakfast!

Thanks Anna. At what point are solids "really" important? Thanks.

There's no particular cut off where milk stops being important and solids take over - it's a gradual process, starting now and ending up with (we hope) him eating a balanced and varied diet (with more importance on meals than milk) by 12 months. Many babies will want to drop one milk feed (because they are getting enough nutrition from solids to do so) at around 8-9 months old and another at 10-11 months old.

Hi raqueltx

Anna's given you some great advice. The general thinking is that food is for fun until one. At this age they are getting the majority of their liquid and nutritional needs from milk so the idea is you keep up the same number of milk feeds as well as the solids. A lot of people give the solids 45 mins to 1 hour after milk but you know your LO best so follow his cues. My ds prefers his lunch and evening solids too - who knows why? Many days I just skip the breakfast if he's not interested or fussy. I am often worried about giving him a bad association with food so if he is fussy with the solids I just leave it. But then sometimes he wants it 10 mins later!

there is a bunch of info that you may be interested in looking at here http://babywhispererforums.com/index.php?board=94.0
