Bedtime BF? 14.5 months old.
« on: June 02, 2010, 03:07:44 am »
Hi,
I'm still doing a bedtime BF for my 14.5 month daughter.  I've been back to work for 6 weeks now, and that's when we dropped the am one.
She's so-so interested in this feed - some days more than others.  I'm wondering about dropping it - but if I do, would I need to replace it with a sippy of milk or something?  I doubt she would want it - if it were in a bottle, probably (but I'd continue BF before adding a bottle).
Her evening routine is:
6:00 supper with a sippy cup of milk
6:30 bath
7:00 BF and bed.
Suggestions?

Do you *want* to drop it?

If you usually do the bed time routine, can someone else do it for a while to help break the routine?  At this point, she probably does not need the calories from this feed, if she is eating well during the day.  You (even better if someone else) could offer a sippy of milk and see what happens, but again, it's probably not necessary.  Neither of my girls had an issue of dropping the before bed feed and needing to replace it with something and dd2 was bfed until 22 months.

Hiya,
 Just wondering a few things:
How is her eating during the day?
Does she drink any cows milk? Does she have any other BFs during the day?
Why do you want to drop it?

Hi there,
DD eats really well - 3 meals and a snack or 2 / day.  She has a sippy cup with cow's milk for all meals and water in between.
I don't feel a strong need to quit, or any inconvenience.  If I want to go out or something, dd will happily take a bottle with cow's milk.  I was just wondering when a good time to wean is, and if I should considering dd doesn't seem to need it for her bedtime routine.  Is it harder to wean if you wait until they're older?
I'd be sad to stop BF altogether, but we're planning for a second soon, so I know there's much more BF in the future.
Anyhow, just looking for feedback/opinions...

I think the ease of dropping it is more related to the personality of the kid.  If she has no issue taking cow's milk when you aren't there, I think you would have an easy time dropping it.

agree with RachelC, it'll also depend on how you cope with it. I've a friend that only managed to completely wean her first one when the second one came along and had preference. The first one lost interest on her own.
Maybe you should try a night or so not to feed your LO and see the reaction.
