Yay for baked beans!

As for what to try next, hmmm. I'd say corn on cob but not really in season right now. Work on fresh fruit? Sliced strawberries?

WTG!

Strawberries would be good, I'll have him try that.  Last night he had two spoonfulls of yummy sweet potatoes with butter, UNDER DURESS!  Anywho, he ate them so I'm thrilled.  Going shopping tomorrow, so will add the strawberries to the list, corn on the cob is my favorite :)

Hi M2M. Just wondering if you've heard of Sleep Talk. There's a thread on this site about it at the moment. Here's the link.

Just thinking that doing something like this with your son while also working on his diet may really move things along.

I have the Sleep Talk book and would be happy to post the script specific to picky eaters if you'd like.

Anyway - keep up the good work.

Anna, I'd LOVE to see the script for picky eaters, thanks! Is my son too young do you think? He won't be two even till June. Plus he's a rather light sleeper if that makes a difference.

AWESOME on the sweet potatoes!

This script is designed for a 2 yo it says in the book but I'm sure it would be OK for someone a little younger:

Jimmy, this is you mom,
I want to let you know how much I love you.
I want to let you know how pleased and happy I am when you eat your food at mealtime.
You are a good eater.
You keep your body healthy and strong by eating good foods.
I am proud of you when you try new foods.
I appreciate your taking 'one bite' of new foods.
It is like an adventure.
Your taste buds are growing up.
Thank you for being my son.
I love you so much.
Sweet dreams.

The idea is that you go in 1 - 2 hours after they've fallen asleep as they're in their deepest sleep at this point. You do it for 5 nights and see how you're doing after that.

Let me know how you get on....

Hi everyone! It's been a while and I have been so busy but I feel the need to post an update as Wes has made huge strides in his eating and I wanted to offer hope to other parents going through the same.  Over the past year Wes has been bribed, yes bribed, to try new things and he has been accepting the bribes.  He now eats the following:
Turkey tacos
french fries
some chicken (still working on this)
pork
pasta with sauce
regular pasta
hot dogs
grilled cheese
steak

I cannot believe that he has come this far.  A lot had to do with him just having to eat one bite and then after he did that I would continue the exposure to that food 3 more times in a row (same thing for supper or lunch the next day, etc).

Thank you for all your support during this continued battle, just so grateful that he has been eating more.  I never thought he would....believe me when I say that he can be quite stubborn.

Hey, I just want to thank you for coming back and posting updates!  My son is 19 months and I go crazy with his picky eating at times, although everyone says it's a phase.  It seems like I keep losing foods he'll eat (starts to refuse them) and gaining ground on new foods is very slow - like maybe one new food every two months.  He just started accepting dry fruit (cranberries and raisins) about a month ago and just yesterday started to show interest in my husbands morning bagel on the way to daycare.

Your post gives me hope - and some ideas.  We try really hard not to cater to him, always offering him what we are eating, but then we always put one food on his plate we know he'll eat (like corn or peas) and then give him 8 oz of milk after a meal.  I think this is our down fall - we need to cut the milk and stop offering him preferred foods at every meal.

Thank you!!! It has been such a struggle for me and honestly, I feel like I have one of the pickiest eaters ever....if he can turn it around anyone can :)
