hi there nenee
welcome to my world! i have 11 week old twins (and a 3 year toddler) and one twin is particular nutso at bedtime - somenights its taken me till 8 or 9 to finally get her down. she will nod on and off thru the evening;  she gets OT from short naps whilst her sister may grizzle and need an extra cuddle, p just cries till i can get her off w AP.  i have found the electric rocker is super at taking the edge of her OT and then i transfer to cot and shh/ pat.  not great but life has to go on...she has improved heaps in the last week and depending on when her last bottle is i can get her in bed closer to bedtime (altho last night was a bit crazy)

does it help to know i have to do it with 2??? lol.

sorry, no real advice other than i found she is now better when she takes a full bottle as close to her waking from last nap and then catnap again before bed - not perfect EAS but better than crying i find.

take care

Hi and welcome. Sorry you are having it rough. My few thoughts are:
Could you push that first a time a little longer ( like maybe 1hr 30) to encourage a longer 1st nap - 55mins may be a little UT?

If she sleeps for 3hrs for the second nap she is going 4hrs between feeds which is quite long at this age so i would wake her for her feed so she doesn't get hungry later in the day when she has missed some calories -is she doing 3hr easy? Also 3hrs sleep is a lot in one go and may be why she only took 45mins for 3rd nap which then left her tired and OT to sleep for the next one.

3hrs is a very long A for a 10wo - more like a 7 or 8mo so no wonder she is OT by bed and has trouble settling.

What do you think?

Hi ya

I think i will try and extend her first nap, i find it hard to judge when to put her down shes 10 wks at the moment, if i put her to late she fusses or gets up at 45 mins which happens a lot at first nap, it tends tobe hit and miss if she sleeps longer than 45 mins lately will try more A time there.

as for the 2nd nap where she slept 3 hrs i sort of panicked ::) cause she didnt sleep well 1st nap i thought she needed to catch up and i was thinking i know she never sleeps well later on so i thought if i leave here atleast shes had a good nap there, but then i thoght like you shes missed a feed as shes on 3 hr easy although sometimes she needs feeding at 2 1.2 hrs.  would you wake her at 2 hrs then give her a good A time say 1hrs and 30 mins if shes had a good nap to see if her 3rd nap is a good one to get her threw till bedtime?

do you find you THEY ONLY WANT 3 NAPS AND A NAP no matter how long they have slept for, i mean if shes had 3 short naps of 40 mins or smething and its only 3 pm would you still put her for a 4th nap 1hr 30 mins from when she woke? this is when she tends to not want to sleep?

TREEBUTT:...  Hi ya

It does make me realise i could have it worse and actually have twins to deal with big hugs{{{}}}  I also have a lively 3 yr old and a teenage son to contend with which is tough when shes screaming at bedtime.

i find if i get her down before 6 pm for her bedtime shes not as fussy she then is asleep by 6.30 but its not that easy when got other stuff to deal with or she needs to get a feed in,,,, the down side is she wakes at 6 ish am when she does sleep through i have no idea how to get her bedtime to say 7 pm cause she would be even worse at bedtime if i kept her up or give her a nap then woke her up etc...

im hoping as she gets to about 4 months she will be able to handle her A time more and wont do the screaming at bedtime as i feel so bad for her :-[ its frustrating not being in control or dont know how to fix it .

hope you have a better night today

i totally agree also that 3 hrs is far too much A time for a 10 wk old and thats the issue i have i try and get her to have a catnap like mentioned on easy before bed, if i put her in her cot she screams blue murder and wont sleep if i put her in the car etc she may sleep but only 20 mins even if i carry on driving round her eyes pop open and thats that as for the pram she will lie there wide awake, and i get in such a tizz cause i know im in for hard crying at bedtime and i dread it :-[

Yes I would wake her after 2hrs nap. Tracy says any more is likely to cause problems.

If she has short naps you may need to shorten the A time. If sh can do 1.5hrs A after a long nap she will like only be able to do less after a short one so watch her carefully and maybe take up to 30mins off the A time. Sometimes sleeping when OT is the hardest. crying is usually a sign of OT rather than UT so she may need a shorter A after any short nap.

I think if she has all short naps you will have to squeeze another  in to make bedtime or put her down early for the night.

You could use the technique below to adjust bedtime and wakeup but maybe only when she is on a stable routine.

Well you were right about the A time for first nap :D

she woke at 4.30 am last night(wonder if having a long nap did that as previous 4 days she had started to sleep till 6 ish am :() she went straight back and i woke her at 7.30 am......

I put her for her down for her first nap at 1hr 40 mins mark i kept my eye on her (she was very happy and smiley then she  yawned about 3 times at 1hr 30 mins) she didnt fuss etc and went off within 5 mins so her A time was 1hr 45 mins first thing....

AND she woke at 45 min mark and i thought oh here we go, but she went straight back and is still asleep nearly 2 hrs yippee!!!

so for her next nap would you do the same look at 1hr 30 mins to 40 mins? as had a good nap? so she sleeps well again?

have you any tips on getting her to nap in her pram or does that come with age, should i keep trying her as i worry when she wont nap so i tend not to take her but then shes not getting use to it ::)

did you drop the dream feed once your lo had started weening?

so much to remember lol

cheers
nenee

Excellent. I would aim for the same A if that seems to be her sweet spot, though keep an eye on her for signs still rather than go by the clock.

not sure about the pram as DS always slept and still does sleep in the buggy. make sure there are no toys to OS her and maybe hang a blanket over her so it is dark, though with some air able to get in. Also I sometimes sing to DS is he is struggling in the pram.

We had a go at DF but didn't really get it going so stopped well before solids. I think Tracy says about 7 or 8MO when solids are WELL established - so 3 good meals a day.
