New to EASY - am i doing this right? Please help
« on: June 09, 2010, 08:55:16 am »
My son is now 12 weeks old and currently feeding 7 ozs every 3.5 hours.  He has always been a good feeder and always feeds at the same times depending on his wake up time.  I have 2 problems.
My first is his daytime naps.  They are always erratic and i don't know what times each day he will go down.  When i do put him down he wakes every 15 to 20 mins and won't sleep for longer than an hour with several wakings.  How can i fix this that he takes two regular long naps and a catnap ( which he normally takes).  When he wakes he doesn't seem tired but he will get tired around 45 mins to an hr later.
My second problem is his early wakings.  At night time he is a diff baby with regards tio sleep.  He has a bath bottle and bed at around 7pm.  He goes down in his cot on his own with no problems and will sleep peacefully.  Up until a week ago he would wake every 4 hours during the night for a feed but the 1am and 4am feed he would never take more than a few ozs.  So i introduced at dreamfeed at 11pm he will take between 5 and 7 ozs and he will sleep peacefully until around 4am.  He will wake up and i can usually settle him with a dummy and a bit of shush pat however this is usually an hr and half of going bk and forward and then he will sleep until around 7am.  My question is he waking at 4am because he is hungry..should i feed him or continue with the shush pat in the hope he starts sleeping to 7am?  I have found from i stopped his night feeds he his feeding so much better throughout the day.  Any suggestions please help as i'm not sure what to do?

Welcome to the boards :)

I personally think he's still too young to go through the night without any feeds, including the DF, so I'd feed @ 04.00 am, about the EW and the difficulty of getting him back to sleep @ night, I'm thinking maybe he's OT, so I'd need you to post his routine to get a better idea, also does he give you any sleep cues @ all?

Meanwhile, below are a few links that I think may give you some good ideas:

Got to ask as well, do you use sh/pat @ nap time as well and does he have any props?

As this seems more of a routine issue than a sleep issue, I'm going to pop you over to the EASY board and the capable hands of Yazzie!  Feel free to pm me if you have any questions.
