17 mo with very early waking
« on: June 09, 2010, 17:50:38 pm »
I posted this a month back but then thought it was teething. A month later, my lo is still waking between 5 and 545 every morning. She goes to daycare during the week, and her daycare and home routines are different. However, it doesn't make a difference in her EW. Here is her weekday routine:

wake: 5- 5:45 ( she doesn't have to wake up until 620-630)
E: breakfast 730
E : snack 9:30
E: lunch 1130
S: 12-230 or 3
E: snack 330
(S: sometimes will fall asleep 530-6 in car but not usually)
E: dinner 6
630 bath
bed between 7 and 730.

She is very tired when she gets home and is very ready for bed. On days when she does sleep until 630, she is much happier when she gets home at night. All other nights are a nightmare before she goes to bed.
Here are her days at home:
wake 530-545
730 breakfast
S: 900-1030 or 11
E: lunch 1130
S: 2 or 230-4
E: snack 400
E: dinner 600
630 bath
730 bed

Weekends she really needs to catch up on her sleep.  She used to sleep until 630 at least and was much happier during the day and in the evenings. There is nothing we can really do about her schedule during the week. We thought it was the sunlight in the morning waking her, but her room is pitch black. Anything else we can do? I feel like it really effects her days.

Hi there, just wanted to offer hugs and say we are in exactly the same situation, pretty much the same routine.  I think she's just OT from her long week, and really there isn't much you can do.  We have been having luck getting Finn to sleep until 6 with a slightly later bedtime, but it really depends on so much, like whether he's ill or not, whether he had a good nap at daycare, etc. etc.  Sometimes we do an earlier bedtime and accept the earlier waking because he's getting a tad more night sleep.

One thing that did help us is to keep his routine the same on weekends.  He catches up with a super long nap, usually 3 hrs and that worked better for us than trying to alternate him with 2 naps again.  Have you tried to match her routine to see if she would adapt better with consistency?

Other than that, I can't add much :-(  Hugs!!!
The tweaking never stops!

Ok so I was thinking about wake to sleep. Does that work for her age? This is really affecting her day. At daycare, she is falling asleep at the table at lunch, so she doesn't eat. She is thin as it is so she really needs to get her food in. As far as keeping her routine the same, I feel like we would see a difference during the week if this was the case since she is on the same routine 5 days in a row.
Not sure what else to do....

Is there anyone who can help? Now she is waking before 530, which means she isn't even getting 10 hours at night.

The routine is the same as the one for daycare in the first post. Their schedule is the same every day. Thanks!

I can see that it is very hard if she is at nursery. Ideally I would cut her day right back to 12/12.5 hours max, I think it would really help. What is the earliest you could get her into bed?

The earliest we can get her to bed is 7, which we try really hard to do. It doesn't seem to matter whether she goes to bed at 7 or 730. Last week we had 3 mornings where she slept until 615-630, and she had partial wakings on her own each time. But then her mornings got earlier and earlier again. She woke at 515 yesterday and 530 today. She has taken 3 hour naps the past 3 days at daycare.
We are having a little trouble on the weekends with her naps. She has always been a good napper but we are having trouble with the 2-1 nap. The past couple of weekends she has skipped her pm nap when we do 2, so we tried 1 nap this past weekend. She could only make it to 1030 and then slept only 2 hrs. We tried a catnap in the afternoon, but she didn't sleep and then woke up super early those mornings because of OT.

Any ideas would be great!
