So if we do the same routine tomorrow would you just go for 4.5h if you were me?  I guess I get nervous about post-8pm BT since it means I won't get 11h at night (since I can count the times he's slept past 7 on one hand!) but I guess that's ok with good naps?
yes i would go for 4.5 hours.  your other option would be to wake him after a 1.5 hour nap and do 4ish hours A time.

this is what happens when they start the switch though - bedtime gets later for a while to fit all the nap and A time in and nights get shorter and then bedtime gets a lot earlier and nights hopefully get longer after they go to 1 nap.  some even do 12 or 13 hours.  i wouldn't worry about it as long as naps are good, sttn and happy during the day.  it's just par for the course with the 2to1!

No worries, Wendy. ;)  Hope you're having fun wit the ILs.

So far so good today, basically went as yesterday did.  DH has him in the bath now and we're shooting for 4.5h A time.  I'm hoping we don't get a repeat of last night but I'll let you know!

So it seems like 4.5h is the way to go!  Wow, that is a long time to spend with a little one, huh? ::)  I mean, I love the little guy but he still doesn't do much!  LOL!  He babbled for a while, but went down on his own around 4h35 with no crazy screaming where I had to be in the room.  So I guess we'll stick with this for a while and see how it goes!

Thanks again, girls. :D

great!!  it is amazing how quickly they jump up in A time.  until they're on 1 nap it is a keep up game as it is constantly changing.

my dd1 has just gone to no naps on the weekends (still napping during the week at daycare)...now THAT is a loooong time to spend with a lo!

It is a long time, until they are walking.  Then it gets a lot easier, it's still long but they are doing SOMETHING rather than just being frustrated because they can't.  No naps - ugh, Finn will be there before we know it.  This kid always has something up his sleeve hehe.

Wow, a whole day with no naps! :o  I  bet you're right, Wendy, that it will be easier when he's walking.  I think that isn't too far off!

We had a pretty terrible night.  He was up at 2:30 screaming for a few min but then went back down.  Then again at 4:20 on and off until I went in there at 4:45.  Finally got him to sleep around 5:15, which lasted until about 6 when he was up screaming his head off again.  I had tried Tylenol at some point in there but no dice.   He didn't eat much dinner so I was worried he was hungry so I just fed him but then there was no going back down.  So about an 8h night, really! :P  He's going back and forth between being happy and playing and screaming this morning so I don't know what the heck is going on.

Would you still wake him at 30 min or let him sleep a little longer or what?

Thanks...
*Kate*

That sounds like teeth Kate, is it possible?  The not eating and night discomfort is classic teeth for us.  And the mood swings, very teeth.

If it is teeth and he had a short night, I might give him 45 mins, but then again with Finn it's always best to stick with the current routine, even if it means we have a grumpy so and so on our hands.  He's not big on change and would bless us with a long PM nap, just be careful with that middle A time because you don't want him OT.

Yup, I'm thinking teeth, too, Wendy.  What fun!  I looove getting new teeth! ::)

Hmm.  That's the exact battle I'm having in my head and getting up at 4:15 is not helping me to make a decision!  Maybe I will give him 45 min and then still try a relatively short 2nd A.  2h55 worked yesterday after a 30 min nap so I'm thinking maybe 3 if I give him 45 min?

It could be between 3 or 3 hr 30 - it's so variable with these monkeys.  Good luck!!!! xo

Ah yes, what monkeys we have!  :D

As the morning went on he was more like himself so I just decided to stick with what we've been doing and woke him after 30min.  He was not happy but he got over it quickly.  Then I had a conference call I had to be on and he was so good even though I was hardly playing with him at all!  Such a good kiddo I have.  I felt so bad but he was just playing around, entertaining himself.  Such a sweet boy.

Anyhow, then he went down perfectly after 2h45 of A time so hopefully we'll get a nice long nap to catch him up.

I'm probably jinxing everything here, but it really is amazing how much less sensitive he is to OT now that he's older.  I just don't have to have the same panic attacks when things derail a bit, you know? Makes me wonder if one of these days we might actually go out to do something for a whole day and - gasp! - hope that he sleeps in the stroller!  Hmm.  But I still don't know if I have the guts for that yet! LOL!

isn't it wonderful!  it just gets better to as they get older, you don't have to worry about getting it right on the proper A time.  love it!

sounds like teeth to me to BTW, i think you did the right thing with the naps today.  good luck tonight!

Thanks,  Brenda.  I put him down aiming for 4.5 after the 2h nap.  He fussed quite a bit for 15 min or so, so I wonder if he was a touch OT but we'll see how the night goes.  I'm going to give him some Motrin before I go to sleep so hopefully that will help. I'm exhausted from our early start so I'm off to bed myself! :D

Morning ladies, what do you think about this?  We're definitely teething again around here.  A was up all.night.long.  Went down at 8:30 (after 5h A :P), then up at 12:30-1, 2:40-4:30, 5:15-5:30, up for the day at 6:50.

So....what to tell the sitter to do?  We all agreed the other day after a bad night that it was right to stick to the regular routine but this was a particularly horrible night.  (And I can attest to that!)  I'm thinking a slightly shorter A this morning, maybe 45 min, and then 3h to the PM nap?  ???  No idea, really.  I wish I could take a nap today. :(
