Is he ready for a 3.5 or 4hr EASY and how to implement?
« on: June 22, 2010, 19:32:13 pm »
DS2 is 16 weeks now but still a tidgy baby at 10lb 13oz last week.

He is staying awake for 1.5hrs after feeding but I'm not sure if he's feeding properly so maybe not hungry enough on a 3hr routine and sometimes he does push it and stay awake longer so I am wondering if he's ready for the transition. He's not sleeping well at night still so that may be why he sometimes can't stay awake as long during the day.

Is the A time a good indicator of readiness?

How do I do it? 10 mins at a time or just go for 3.5hrs for a week and then 4?

Each lo is different so it's hard to tell if your lo is ready. However, most babies at 4 months are ready to transition to a 4h EASY. For us, staying too long on a 3.5h easy caused some night wakings (lo had been sttn already). I also noticed that my lo was no longer interested in feedings that much. That was probably my biggest sign.

Unfortunately, the best way to see is to try it out. I would recommend adding 5/10 minutes to the first A time for 3 days. After that I would do the same to the second A time and so on. There are some threads on this but I don't know how to link them. Maybe someone can explain or post them. My rule was always if my naps start being 30 minutes she was not ready.
