Think of it like a soup rather than baby food. It is not like he isn't chewing anything else.

I agree with not thinking too much about pureeing.....after all they eat yogurt, applesauce, soup...no biggie!  My dd will not eat chicken, but I can grind it up soooooo tiny and she will eat my (chicken) soup, which she calles veggie and macaroni soup!  I just chop up the cooked chicken and chop and chop and chop until it's practically dust!  Aslo...you can toss a spoonful of the chicken dust into pasta sauce too.

Jo - just wondering if you ever "solved" this. DS has started doing the same thing - repeatedly spat out chicken last night (and he normally loves parmesan chicken) and meatball this afternoon (till I added it into his homemade minestrone soup and fed it to him that way). He has a top tooth breaking and others moving so I'm guessing/hoping it's related to that. Have already prepped a veggie lasagna for tonight so hopefully he eats that (cheese protein and lots of veggies) and will definitely make him an egg tomorrow afternoon!

well its been put on hold as hes developed tonsilitis, so NOTHING meaty is going down at the moment :(

however he still eats fish, it looks like chicken so i dont know why he will eat it when he doesnt even put the chicken near his lips, so how does he know the difference?

Oh no Jo, I hope he feels better soon. Maybe he can just tell from the smell?

DS wouldn't even eat veggie lasagna tonight (which he usually loves) and woke crying (sounded like a pain cry) 40 minutes after going to bed. Gave Motrin, hoping another tooth broke - will see in morning...

Grrr - DS has been totally spitting out meat lately. Definitely seems to be a texture thing and he IS teething (and/or has a cold, I think both). He normally loves pasta and homemade meatballs - tonight he ate the pasta (pinwheels) fine but could only get him to eat the meatball by cutting it into tiny pieces and giving him a bit with a spoonful of applesauce (his favorite) at the same time.

Karen, Ive made a special chicken noodle thing and when Caleb is refusing meats this is the only thing that goes down, I think its because the chicken is SO soft that he doesnt know its there but theres heaps of it, let me know if you want the recipe :)

Jo, I'd LOVE the recipe!!! DS loves chicken noodle soup and the like so maybe it could work! That's been my other "trick" lately - putting cut up chicken or meat or whatever into his soup. He has been doing a bit better with fish lately - maybe cause it's so soft? Dunno... Course he's also not big on letting me feed him with a fork lately (though a spoon is usually ok) and he won't self feed meat anymore (he used to) - though he'll happily self feed noodles, sweet potato fries, fruit, etc...

Thanks!

here it is!

100g Vermicelli soaked in water (for about 5-10mins)
4 cups of chicken stock
1 cup cooked shredded chicken
2 eggs beaten

Place Vermicelli and stock into a saucepan and cook for 3 minutes. add shredded chicken and bring to the boil. While still hot pour beaten egg in slowly whilst stirring.

I usually either buy a cooked chicken or I slow cook a chicken as its much softer that way. whatever chicken I dont use I freeze for the next time I make this. It tastes pretty plain so you can add salt and pepper if you like. I like it but DH doesnt

:)

Thanks Jo! So does it come out as a soup/do you feed it to him that way? So is the egg only going in after the heat is turned off (but the mixture in saucepan still hot)? Maybe I could also add in some soft cooked carrots for veg?

you can add what you like! I just kept it simple for now, might add other stuff in later. It kinda comes out as a soup, its hard to describe really. also if you put more chicken in then it really doesnt come out like a soup, there will be no liquid at all, its quite mushy, doesnt look nice but it tastes good (well to me and Caleb anyway! lol) The egg goes in after the heat is turned off but very soon after, like 10 seconds

Thanks again - maybe will try for lunch tomorrow. Does it matter to use vermicelli over any other noodles?
