Oh no, so sorry I missed this one. :(

What did you do?  How are things going?  i've found as they get older that it's better to stick to a routine more or less (unless the night is really really horrendous) but it's really a personal call. :D

it has gotten better.  my try with pd has actually worked this time - thank goodness.
he is sleeping better through the night (even better than before) and when i go in i just pd one time sang a lullaby, left and he fell asleep.  i used to pat over the crib for 10-20 minutes.  so, i think his developmental changes and pd are the right combo for now.
so, last night was the best night in 2 weeks and i just let him sleep with no disruption for naps to see what he would do on his own.  the a.m was 1 hour and the p.m was 45 min. i know those are short but he did fine today.  he wasnt cranky and went to sleep with relative east (it is the 3rd pd night and we did 15 times - down from 76) yipee!
so, given that......how should i handle naps tomorrow.
i kinda do a set schedule with a 20-30 min flex depending on his wakeup time.
what do you think.  i hope i havent been rambling.

Yay!  Great news.

I pretty much do a set routine with a little flex time, too.  I would cut the AM nap tomorrow and see what that does for his PM nap.  I would try 45min or 30, up to you.  Then a slightly shortened A until the next nap, 2h45ish will probably be good.

What do you think? :D

sounds good.  we will give it a go.
my problem is that the first nap he will sleep for an hour or longer with no help from me but for some reason i have to apop him back to sleep to get a longer nap (longer than 45 m) for the p.m. nap.
so, would you just continue to apop for the afternoon nap to see if i can extend it for a while?  thanks for your help!

Hmm.  Well there are 2 possible answers to this one.  The first is that you could try the long AM/short PM approach.  This is less common but does work for some people.  I think the issue is that it's hard to get them to bedtime on a short PM nap.  But like I said, it does work for some.

The other approach would be to just stick with the short AM/long PM and APOP a bit in the PM for a week or so and see if his body adjusts.  This probably what I would try, but it's up to you. ;)

ok, i'll go for the second and apop a bit and see how it goes.  when we made a change in his naps, he always managed the first nap first and the second nap a few weeks later for some reason.  i could never do both at the same time...
thanks for your help.....

At this age, my DS never needed much help with the am nap and I always had to wake him. Only exception was 30m OT naps. I really struggled with the idea of cutting the am nap for the very same reason! But once took the shorter am nap and I got his A times right for the second one, his second nap was great. He did wake at 30m or 45m when we were at the start of the transition and it was initially that he'd had a long am nap so wasn't tired enough, but later it was OT - he didn't show tired signs for the pm nap so I had to clock watch and get a tight grip on his good A time! When I got it right, a good lushious 1h30 nap!!!!

Fingers crossed for you. Have we told you lately what a fantastic job you're doing? Really great progress with the PD - well done you!!!!  :-*

thanks.  tonight i think he was a bit ot.  and today for the second nap too.
here is what i did.
he had an ew at 330 and we were up until 445 and then to sleep until 650.
S - 950
A - 1035 (i woke him) and he seemed a little grumpy

it was gymboree today from 1130 to 1215 and i think that threw us off a little. he slept for about 8 min in the car from 1240-1248 or so even though i tried keeping him awake.  so, i started getting him to sleep at 120 hoping he would be asleep by 135ish but it was a struggle.  he didnt go to sleep until 240, was up at 305 (apop) and he was back to sleep until 320 only.  the evening was a struggle.  i tried to get him to sleep around 645 but it was 750 before he finally fell asleep.  i only had to pd 22 times but he cried lying down mostly.  so, in retrospect i maybe should have tried bt sooner???  what do you all think?  any suggestions for tomorrow?  thanks!
good news is the 45 m monster at night is gone.  that took forever to get rid of...

Just wanted to second the cheers for how well you're doing!! ;D

Those little car CNs can really mess with things, huh?   But sometimes it's impossible to avoid!  Sounds like you did your very best. I would have tried for BT around 6:30, too, but sometimes they just won't go down.

Tomorrow I would stick to the plan, with maybe a slightly shortened last A time to bed if he seems tired.  I've heard (and found myself) that by this age it really is best to keep consistency (unless they're teething or sick or have a super disastrous night).  I adjust the last A a bit if he's OT.  That's just what I've found to work, though. ;)

thanks! :)  sometimes it can be tough...
ok, today i will do the same and we will not have any car rides for the second a and i may try for 2.45 or so.. hopefully that will help.
i am not sure gymboree is going to work??  i hate to give it up but not sure it is worth the rough day...
last night was ok... he woke around 415 for 15 min 520 for 10-15 min and up around 610.  those early mornings are killer...  one morning he made it to 545 with no wake ups about 2 weeks ago and i thought i had made it to heaven.. :)
thanks again for all your help...

Yeah it's so tough to figure out doing group things like that.  I would generally say to go for it, despite a bad day here and there, since I'm sure he loves it, but it's up to you. Maybe you can find something else that fits in his day better?

How was today?

:D

i may try a different time and see how that works for gymboree.  he does love it...
yesterday went well but for some reason we had a wake-up from 1130 to 200 last night .   i had to apop  to sleep.  not sure what was going on???  should i give a longer a.m. nap since it was so rough??
