Never Wake a Sleeping Baby?
« on: July 19, 2010, 19:47:42 pm »
My DS is 16 weeks and has started taking naps that are 2 hours or longer. My mother says to let her sleep but I am worried she may sleep too much during the day. I can't believe I am even asking about this as DS napped for 45 min max! Anyway, she had been doing really well at night so I wasn't worried about a routine. We followed a eat, activity, sleep pattern though most of the time and she would go for 4-5 hours at night. However, we haven't been able to achieve that lately. I would love to get back to sleeping from 10pm to 5am. Are the naps causing issues? Thanks.

It depends!  Here is some info:

http://babywhispererforums.com/index.php?topic=85130.0

4-6 months                                                           Two naps, 2-3 hours each OR;
Gaining mobility                                                       3 naps; 2 2hr naps & 1 45min catnap
                                                                                10-12 hours at night

Are you on a 4 hour EASY?  What is his total day sleep?

TBH unless the naps got ridiculously long I didn't wake!  I enjoyed the sleep while I could.  If you want to post your EASY I'll take a peek and see does anything stand out that may be affecting your nights xx

For a while, the guideline I followed was to let DS sleep until his next E time.  Some babies will naturally wake up when it gets close to their E time because they're hungry.

we always woke, but we did so because keeping twins on schedule was so important to my sanity.  fwiw, waking didn't do any harm to them either if you feel like you need to do that.  our schedule was sleep until the next E, so i always woke for E on a 4 hour easy.
