Just dropping off huge {{{hugs}}}.  DS2 was my worst sleeper until he was 2.   :-\  He was always sick on top of his reflux and sleep was hard to come by.

Could his room be dry?  Maybe adding some moisture will help as I'm sure his cough is worse at night.  Does he have any allergies?

Just thinking out loud as to why he's struggling so much...

The thing is that this isn't normal for Caleb, he's sttn most of his life, even in the midst of horrid reflux to the point of screamig 8 hours a day he still sttn!

Room isn't too dry, we've had a vaporizer on in his room for the past month.

It's 1.50am, he woke at 12.30 and I managed to get him back to sleep within 15 mins, he woke at 1.30 and I'm struggling, I'm really struggling. I sent Dh in to pat him cos I'm scared I'm gonna hurt him I'm so fed up. I'm right at the end of myself. Even Dh mentioned how he's not responding to Patting anymore. As soon as we stop he just cries.

I really need help here, I'm so desperate, I'm sick of crying about this, it's 2am for goodness sakes, I shouldn't be crying at 2am!!!!!

The last time I felt like this Caleb was about 6 months old. What am I missing???

huge hugs, I feel really sorry for you!
TBH I don't even know what else to suggest that you haven't tried yet (the car ride, the Tylenol, giving a bottle for a NW, someone else taking over, checking again with the doc, WI/WO ...)

If you're there beside him without patting what happens? I'm thinking that maybe you could make yourself (or your DH) a bed on the floor beside him for a few nights/a week for reassurance - and in the hope that it'll start helping with the NW, getting over the OT cycle.

Is he still on reflux meds?  Teething can really cause a HUGE reflux flare-up for some babies and toddlers.

Big huge hugs jo  :-*

I have just read this and from what I can gather he has been sick and he's teething canines, what an awful combination  :P Has he had his ears checked? MY dd would get fluid/infections in her ears nearly everytime she teethed as well as a runny stomach and bad temper! I also had to cut her A times right back. I know it is scary but why not try that very early nap when he is looking exhausted and if you can't get a catnap go for a ridiculously early bedtime, I mean around 5pm (Leorah has been to bed at 4.30pm more than once and still goes at 5.30pm every night!!) He sounds unbelievably OT and when that happens you cannot (however much you want to) stay asleep, it isn't his fault and I understand exactly where you are coming from, you are sleep deprived and frustrated too but it really will help if you can accept in your head that it is out of his control, when L was sleeping terribly everything turned around when i accepted this  :-*

I can also just about promise you he will go back to being a star sleeper, this is a huge glitch but he will STTN again. I know you have found the patting works and he obviously finds it comforting but maybe it is also a bit of a distraction, do you think a hand on the back could help just as well? If I was in your shoes right now I think I would set up a bed on his floor and go to bed really early myself, this means you can just reach over and reassure him. Definitely give the max drugs you can, those canines are right painful little b*ggers! Also begging Jesus may help! I was so desperate when L was teething and sleeping badly I went on a spiritual forum and begged for distant healing a few times and it seemed to work lol!!

For one night only is there anyway your DH could totally take over so you can have an uninterrupted night sleep? After that you will feel a million times better and can be better prepared to help Caleb get the sleep he needs. During the day I would do whatever you can to get a nap and maybe a second nap, it is worth the petrol if you can get an extra nap or the sore feet if he is likely to nod off in the pram. The short naps are probably due to the chemicals in his body from being so OT, same with the NWs, poor baby, if he could talk he would be saying "mummy I am really trying to sleep, I'm not waking up to drive you crazy, honestly!" I understand how you feel though, truely I do, I have totally BTDT. As you don't have much control over his sleep, you can just make the conditions as favourable as pos, I would prioritise getting some sleep yourself, if you could that tonight then maybe you can continue on fresh with Caleb tomorrow.

Sending a million tooth break through once and for all and help Caleb sleep vibes  :-* :-* :-* :-* :-*

Hey there Jo, just read this & although I really don't know what to suggest, would 2nd Tay's idea about making up bed beside Caleb's crib & see how things go?

Also, agree about getting his ears checked?

Sending you loads & loads of sleepy vibes :-*

How does he respond if you just sit in his room, next to the cot and gently have your hand on his back and when he stops crying, remove it and sit next to him until he falls asleep? Might help if the patting isn't working anymore.

Hugs Jo

I haven't read through properly but wanted to offer my support and say if he hasn't seen a dr I would get him to one.  I really think he does sound poorly, maybe a chest infection - and even if they can't hear anything it may be worth him getting a chest xray.  DS had pneumonia and no one heard anything on his chest ::)

I was thinking the same as Laura - maybe an undiagnosed ear infection or other issue on top of the teething? BIG hugs

well i took him back to the dr this morning... he still has a temp of 38.1, has had it for four days now and his throat is sore and red again. checked his ears again, all fine, checked his chest again, still fine. he looks a mess, his eyes are puffy and red, he has a temperature, hes constantly crying. so dr has given us antibiotics again, the third lot so far. said if this doesnt help then he will refer us to a pediatrician in 10 days...

I got in the car and lost it, cried and cried and cried. DH is now sick as well... again.

DH said to me last night that he was going to take the baby monitor into the spare room and look after Caleb for the next two nights for me so i could get uninterrupted sleep... now that hes sick thats not going to happen.

So im at the end of myself literally, im exhausted, this has gone on for so long now. Im probably gonna set up a mattress in Calebs room tonight so that i can just put my hand through the cot and rest it on his back as he was up 7 times last night. also the dr said to not give him ibuprofen as much because its very harsh on his tummy (explains the passing wind and the constipated poo we got thsi morning)

on the way home from the drs (a 5 min drive) Caleb fell asleep in teh car. the A time?? 3 hours.... transferred him into his cot, he woke up five mins later, i patted him back to sleep. he needs it

and now i feel like the worst mother in the world for doing WI/WO wiht him the other night when he very clearly still isnt well.  :'( :'( :'(

Oh hun, lots of hugs. I can only imagine what you are going through. Now you have to deal with two sick babies.

There is definitely more then teething that is bothering him. If he is worse tomorrow, then bring him to another doctor.
I have been reading a lot on probiotics and have been given it to my lo during the winter months to combat colds. Not sure if you give Caleb this, but wonder if this will help his immune system! Just a thought!

I hope your night goes well.  :-*

Massive {{{hugs}}} for you and Caleb.   :'(   And sending TONS of sleepy vibes for you all.

FWIW, DS2 and DD both had to do a long term antibiotic to finally kick whatever was going on with them at the time.

have started probiotics three days ago but hes not eating or having his milk so i couldnt get it into him at all yesterday.

Alison - I hope these antibiotics do the trick, this one is for 10 days, given four times a day so im really really hoping for some improvment.

DH just told me that he will still do the nightshift tonight, so im having a whole bed all to myself all night long with no interruptions!!

I also called a friend from church who is going to come over with an elder and pray for us today, basically im calling in the troops!

oh and the nap... was 40 mins long :(

thanks for all your support girls, its really helping, you have no idea how much!

Is there anyone who could mind him for an couple of hours so you can get a nap - even if they look after Caleb at your house?

I'm inclined to agree that if the antibiotics haven't started to help within 48hrs you see someone else. Is he still coughing?
