GS or sudden low supply?
« on: July 26, 2010, 12:11:50 pm »
DS was really fussy last night. He's a few days shy of 6 weeks so I was thinking GS. However, we noticed in the middle of the night that his diapers were less full. He also fed every 2 hours (UGH). So, could I have a sudden low supply or is this just a GS? He was also very fussy on the breast. He had one BM this AM which was a good size but not much yesterday.  I'm going to keep better track of his routine today to see how many diapers he fills and how often he eats. Sometimes I lose track because he's so young and has many EAS's right now LOL

The other reason I am concerned with sudden fussiness and behavior change is that DS1 had a relapse of herpangina (how does THAT happen, UGH). So I am worried that DS2 now has it.

I have to say that the very first thing that came to me was the fact that DS, when he was around 6 weeks, started feeding VERY frequently at night, every 2hrs, then 1.5hr, to the point he was feeding almost every 45/50min - all due to his reflux...
Could it be that?

No, my last baby had reflux and I am not seeing ANY signs except that he likes to sleep on his side (is that a sign). Plus, he's just not a fussy baby. Lucas was FUSSY and I kept guessing what was wrong. I really am starting to think this is a GS becacuse he's also eating off both sides when he was a single sided feeder AND my nipples hurt today. Sooo, I wonder?

Yesterday I kept track of feeds and he fed every hour until he was too exhausted in the afternoon (rephrase, we were BOTH exhausted). I'm just paranoid due to the herpangina virus that Lucas has again! UGH. :(

Sounds classic GS to me. Feed on demand, keep at it even when you feel you have no milk. He's working with your body to build supply. If you go with his cues, I believe the supply kicks up to meet demand much faster.

If you are worried about the virus, I'd suggest speaking to your Dr. Put your mind at rest.  :)

Last night he was up every hour but was happy during the day and slept fine. UGH, I am so exhausted. I thought that the GS was done since we started (again) having poopy diapers after every feeding. He was also really fussy last night but not during the day at all.
