45 min naps leading to very late bedtime
« on: July 27, 2010, 00:48:26 am »
Hi there,  My son will be three in October and I have noticed that when he naps during the day ( and maybe only for 45 mins) he is not going to sleep at night until almost 9:30 pm.  Should I cut out naps during the day and aim for an earlier bedtime??  I am not sure what to do at this point.  He never seems to fall asleep for a nap until 3 in the afternoon and since then he has not been falling asleep at night until 9:30 or 10 and waking  at 7.  Is he ready for no naps during the day??  I just feel that the only way to get him to bed earlier is to do no naps.  I am really confused!!!

hi there,

we had a similar issue and have gotten rid of the nap totally and then bed time is 8 and wake up is 7am. If at all he does fall asleep we limit it to 30 min max.

HTH
9 and 6, oh boy!

Same here, my lo is 34months and no naps or bedtime is really late.  Although I put him to bed at 7 and he is up at 6.  I would try no naps.

Thanks for the input.  I have been trying no nap during the day, and he is still not falling asleep until after 9pm.  I am not sure what to do .  We do a much longer wind down time now because I fear that he is OT at bed time.  Tonight is the same.  I finished stories by 8:10 and he has gotten out of bed three times since.  I am losing my mind because I have no down time before I am so tired I fall in the bed. ( I hope that does not sound bad, but I love my quiet time before bed to relax)

I went through the exact same thing.  It lasted a couple of months.  I was losing my mind and now he goes to bed wonderfully.  The latest my lo kept me and himself up was 10:30pm!!!! and up at the crack of dawn.  I don't know if it was developmental but now things are alot better.  I tried to keep calm and put my lo down early so if it took over an hour to fall asleep at least it was still a decent hour.  Hang in there, this too shall pass.

HUGS!!!
