EASY+ BLW+ going back to work?
« on: July 29, 2010, 19:45:35 pm »
HI Ladies,
My plan was to go with Max on the BLW route. After 2 weeks I'm not sure if we can succeed...
I need to go back to work from Sep. (3 days a week, he will be 7 months) and I'm BFing him. We are more or less on E.A.S.Y.

When I started BLW 2 weeks ago, his milk feeds became much shorter (less than 10 mins but he has always been an effective feeder) so I'm afraid of the baby clinic next Monday!

My problem is that I can't really find the right time to give him solids.. Since milk should be the food at first place for babies until 1 year, solids should be given after milk. Somehow I can't fit it into our routine as it always conflicts with the sleep time:((
Here is our approx. EASY:
E: 7 AM: BF ( since we have solids, he does not take 2 full breasts)
E: 8 AM: Solid  (Sometimes he is already tired if he woke around 6 and played silently in his bed so is just fuzzing in his highchair..)
A: 8:20 -9
S: 9- 10:30 / or 9:45
E: 11 BF
A: 11:10- 11:30
E: 11:30 Solids - not hungry at all if I try to give him solids this early
A: 11:45- 12:30
S:  12:30- 14:00
E: 14:00 Solids - I realized he loves to feed himshelf after the lunchtime nap,but this is then before BF and not after!
E: 15:00 BF
A: 15:15- 16:15
S: 16:15- 17:00
E: 17:00 Solid
A: 17:30- 18:30
E: 18:30 BF
S: 19:00-

When I return to work, I'd like to express milk in the office. Not sure if this is realistic though.. I assume, I will not be able to express as much milk as I produce now and he can suck out, therefore his milk intake will be lower than before starting with BLW but he still won't take too much of solids. So where are we leading to?? I'd really love to continue to BF him!
Please help me!!! What should I change? ???

Thank you!!

hi

Don't have much time and am ready to sleep right now but had same age baby this time last year when I was also going back to work.

My way around not having to pump was that I kept up the DF so we still had 7,3,7 and DF but I had the advantage of working 7.30 to 2.30 only so was able to be home for all feeds ( really work 7.30 to 3.30 but had one hour breastfeeding time).

will be back tomorrow xxx

Hi there :)  I think you will be able to work it out, it just might take some practice.

First off, if you are having trouble fitting all the 'meals' in, I would just keep concentrating on those milk feeds because like you said they are the most important.  Maybe think of solids more as fun and activity type stuff rather than meals that are at set times.

When you go back to work, definitely try to keep up with the expressing.  What is your plan, to express and leave bottles for the caregiver?  Or are you doing formula as well?  You could always pop over to Breastfeeding and/or Bottlefeeding to get some ideas of how to work expressing and bottles into your routine as well.

As for the BLW, it's great that that is the route you want to take, but you don't have to do just that either.  If you find some purees are easier to work into your routine, you could do a bit of both.  There are no set rules, only what works for you.

There is a BLW support thread where you can talk to other mamas about what they do.  You can find it here:  http://babywhispererforums.com/index.php?topic=175926.msg1986275#new
