When will I ever stop lactating?
« on: August 04, 2010, 16:29:10 pm »
DS was weaned about 4 months ago. I definitely am not producing a full supply, but your can still get a few drops out. I try not to "check" because I know that encourages lactation. But several weeks go by and then I will notice pressure forces out a few drops. How long does this go on for??

Ages. At least six months for me. It's been almost 9 months since our last BF and I haven't tried in a long time, but I BET if I was in a warm shower and tried, there would still be a few drops there.

I remember with DD it didn't take that long, but I just did not try for a good couple of months, wore a supportive bra day and night and avoided too warm showers.

I also read that sage tea contains a natural form of estrogen which helps descrease the amount of milk, you can try that, but apparently it tastes foul.

I guess it depends on the person as well (of course, doesn't it always). I was producing colostrum for weeks and weeks before giving birth.

I've never stopped producing since I was 20 weeks pregnant with DS1! I BF both my boys for 6 months, and now at 16 weeks pregnant with my third I can still squeeze a few drops out... I guess (hope!) it will stop eventually.. ::) ;D

I wonder the same thing every few days! DS stopped nursing 4months ago and most days in the shower, I notice a little dry milk. When removing it, a little more comes. And it doesn't seem the right colour either. Bluish white. I figured it would end at some point. And I'm TTC, so it doesn't worry me too much - makes me hopeful my body might actually still be working :)

I didn't lactate before DS was born. Not once.
