13.5 - How many milk feeds in a day ?
« on: August 12, 2010, 23:05:44 pm »
Hi Everyone -

My daughter is 13.5 months and since she turned 12 months, she was taking three bottles of milk/formula a day. One upon wake up, one after her nap ( she is on one nap) and one before bedtime. However since yesterday, she's been refusing her bottle after nap. I was having some noodles and she forced me feed her that instead :D

She is on 100% formula feed still since she did not like milk so I am still working on a transition. She takes about 6-7 oz at a time. If she cuts out her 2nd bottle, that makes it no more than 12-13 oz of formula a day. She eats her solids quite well.

Is it ok for her to just hv 2 bottles in a day?

both mine had 2 milk feeds by 10 1/2 months - you can make up the rest of the intake through foods e.g. milk in cereal and through dairy products e.g. yoghurt, cheese, etc.

If its only 1/2 days shes refused then it could just be a blip.

We did 3 milk feeds until a year (as they should have 24oz until then) but that also included milk on cereal, yogurt etc.

After a year I did am and bedtime milk feeds (I bf'd) but offered milk with lunch and dinner in a sippy.  And water the rest of the day.

At 12.5-13 months we switched to two bottles/day - one upon waking and one after dinner/before bed. Midday we often do yogurt with lunch or for snack, or cheese with lunch.

Thanks for your replies. Can any of you please post your toddler's feeding schedule for the day ? I want to make sure that what I'm giving is enough.

Thanks.

We did same as above - 2 BF's at 13 months (was 3), 1 BF at 14 months, weaned fully at 15 months.  Sippy with cow's milk at all meals from 1 year on.
Feeding schedule:
7:20 breakfast
12:00 lunch
3:30 snack
5:00 sometimes a small snack if too hungry to wait for dinner, and I like us to all eat together
5:45 dinner

DD is 17 months old, and we've been doing this since 1 year.
Tried a morning snack which dd liked, but then she wasn't interested in lunch, and she didn't seem to miss it when gone.

Our routine for 14mo DS is
7amish BF
8am Breakfast
10.30 snack
11am nap (varies in time and length)
12.30 lunch
3pm snack
6pm dinner
7pm BF

Milk isn't necessary over 1 yo they just need the calcium so if they are having 2 feeds and other dairy products plus any milk on cereal it should be fine.
