Jenny if he's teething I dare say the naps will settle on their own once the teething is over.  Hold the fort!  Bring in the reserves to help  :P

I'm sorry to hear it's going so rough!! I hope it gets better super-soon!! Are you opposed to giving him ibuprofen or tylenol for the pain or are you already doing that?

***Huge huge hugs!!!!  ***
It's the pits.

I second the question: "Have you tried giving him pain meds?"

If it's any consolation I'm having the same sort of day here. Although, I put him in the swing as his 3rd nap of the day was starting at 12:45!!!  And that was with keeping 2 hours A time for the first and second A time. And then I reduced it to 1.5 for the second because he was just sooooooooo out of sorts. I ended up giving tylenol. He is very rarely this out of sorts. However, I really shouldn't have kept him up for those A times. But, I wasn't sure what to do because the day started so much earlier than normal.

Yip definitely giving him meds! Between nurofen, pamol and bonjela + losec and ranitadine I feel like I'm forever drugging the poor little guy.

Thursday
NW 538
E 542
S 553-647 held and rocked him. Didn't want to take my chances at putting him down awake
W 647
E 710
A 2hrs10
S (854) 858-927 Stirred (woke?) 3 times in the first 10mins
A 2hrs 15
E 1110
S (113) 1140-1234-1330, 1345-1434 he cried out after 45mins but settled himself quickly. When he woke at 1330 I left him to see if he'd settle and then got him up but as I was unswaddling him he started sucking his fingers again so I held him and rocked him and he slept the extra 45mins
E 1500
A 2hrs15
S (1635) 1645-1710
A
E 1805
A 2hrs25
S (1840) 1935

Night= 12hrs
Day = 3hrs25
Total = 15hrs 25

What the heck happened with the first nap I have no idea. Fell asleep fine but then was jolting (awake?) just a couple of minutes later. I couldn't believe it when I heard him :(

Slightly nervous about the APOPing I'm doing now. DD couldn't be APOPed at all and the holding and rocking is the only thing that has worked for J so glad I've got a tool for getting him more sleep but now of course I'm scared of him not being bale to sleep independently ::). Unwarranted for now though I know!

Jenny - for me those jolts have always meant seriously OT. I'm guessing that the quality of sleep he got in the morning, just wasn't good enough for him to handle the 2h10m A time.

Last night was terrible beyond belief. I did a df and NW and EWs. Totally unusual, but did happen last time I tried DF too. Will stick with it for a while though I am terrified - guess that's why DH and I decided to only do major changes at weekends!
Today wasn't crash hot either. Feel trapped at home with a boy that cries ALL day - DD is going a bit nuts too - getting into mischief in efforts to amuse herself - she's sweet and innocently just trying to do things herself... but it's mischief all the same!

DF 2150

Friday
NW 210-250 (had a rock hard tummy)
NW 330-4-5
S 415-545
W 545 (approx)
E 615
A 2hrs 5
S (740) 750-833
A
E 1015
S (1038) 1041-1133, 1202-1220 rocked him when he wouldn't resettle
A 1hr45 (he was showing tired signs (rare!!) so I just put him down)
E 1340
S (1359) 1403-1443 1450-1549 settled himself :D
S 1705-1710
E 1750

About to dream feed him. Hope it's not as disasterous as last night.

He's 5 months old today. DH was in charge today while I had some time out. He put him to bed earlier than I would, but then again he didn't do any 30 or 35min npas like he does for me. We had an early start to the day. I have just been starting A times from wake up time and I tried to stick to a 12ish hour day but no luck. It took an hour to get him to sleep tonight.

I had another small break in the middle of the day. I NEED the break, but I don't know if it's worth it IYKWIM. The way DH worked the naps made the day really long -well maybe I could have shortened it still I don't know - don't know how I would have done it. So today his day was 14hrs40min long :(. I think I made a mistake by trying to put him to bed too early after the CN finished. I've seen on the BC that some do 1hr15 after CN. Thought it was worth a go since our day was already almost over 12hrs. Think it just turned UT-> OT though. Hideous.

I never know what A time to do after the CN. CN is very rarely 45mins. Getting him to sleep for the night is always such a battle.

ps what do you think I should do for the first A time tomorrow? Saturday I did 2hrs10 and got a 50min nap which I would say was UT. Today (unintentionally) was 2hrs15 and he did 90min. So I'm inclined to try 2hrs15 again. The other thing I wondered though was that I topped him up at 7am (not exactly sure why tbh - I was tired! I think it was because that's what time I'd LIKE the first feed to be). It crossed my mind that he might have slept better because he wasn't hungry. Though when he does a short nap I don't usually feed him earlier anyway.

Jenny - I would do things exactly like you did today and see if you get a repeat.

I shot for 2h15m today also, but somehow lost track of time :(  Ended up putting him down too late and got an OT nap.

I would top up also tomorrow if you get another EW.

Actually, topping up is how we got back on track. I read on the BC that that is what Kirry did after the 4 month growth spurt. and I did that because we were away on vacation and it just worked out well doing it. It did turn things around for us, so maybe hunger has been a factor.

I hope you have a better day tomorrow.

He woke at 538 but I got him back to sleep from 620-655. Now not sure when to put him down. On Thursday when I got him back to sleep for 50min he couldn't handle the 2hrs10mins - keep jolting after he first went to sleep and then only did 30min. Will watch him like a hawk and see.

Sherry, can you explain more about how the top up worked for you?
