Marsha - he's been in a BBB since before 18mths cos we thought it might help and maybe he needed more room.

Exhaustedmum - sorry I don't know your name - thank you for your sweet words.

Hey sweetheart,
When he is struggling to settle down to sleep for naps and bedtime is he crying a lot or just mucking around?  I only ask because Dyllan is talking a lot more now too (and has just cut a molar on top of being so ill) and he seems to be taking longer because he has to "talk down" before he can settle down iykwim....he will even wake in the middle of the night, yell out tractor and heater a few times then go back to sleep....funny really!

Also I remember when we first started having my step daughter sleep over she tossed and turned and cried out all night long, it was exhausting...but SHE actually slept ok, she wasn't fully awake (even though we were) for the most of it.  It took a while for that to settle down and even occasionally now when she gets OT or stressed out by something she will sleep walk or stress because she "can't sleep" (although usually she has been, she just doesn't realise it!!).

Can I just point out one positive about Oliver sleep too (don't hit me!!) he CAN put himself back to sleep...he has the skills to settle back down and fall asleep again, that is GREAT.  My hubby is a shocking sleeper and it's because if he is disturbed he can't switch back off....it is encouraging that Oliver can do this.  Obviously something is upsetting his sleep cycle, but he manages to sort himself out and go back to sleep...it does bode well for the future honey ;D

Oh and one thing I was wondering is you are back on dairy now aren't you?  Did he have a very big dairy day yesterday (you mentioned he said his tummy hurt?)...just a thought xx

No he didn't... it's funny cos that was my first thought but NO proper dairy a very sml amoung in my brother's bday cake but other than that.  He did have diarrhea - fortunately we actually got it in the toilet - yay for small victories!!  He barely ate any supper.  So I don't know what's up.

TBH the long settling drives me nuts - because I'm just not used to it, he's never been one to take ages to settle.

Marsha - My DS will certainly test your thinking cap..... and your drawing board for that matter ;)

Laura - we have just been through something very similar with Henry. He has always been brilliant at settling for bedtime (naps a different story!) We would literally put him in his cot and within a minute or two he would be asleep but recently he has been talking or fussing for up to 45 mins. When we were away it got worse and I checked his mouth and yup - 2 back molars coming through so I reckon they have been shifting for a while.
Just a thought x

I was going to give nurofen tonight just to see if that helps.  I can't see any teeth but it tends to go like that and then suddenly they appear.  I guess if it helps then maybe I have my answer.  Is it just because of the laying down?  Although he's been grumpy pants since I got him back from my mum's, but then he only slept an hour for her - she also commented on how long it's taken him to settle - well at least it's not just me!

Well when I was claening his teeth I could actually see the white bits of the molars - this is new as I haven't been able to see anything.  I gave him nurofen last night and it took about 25mins to settle which is much better.  I would say normally abotu 5 nights a week it takes him 10/15mins to sleep and the other 2 nights nearer 30mins so that's about normal I guess.

However had over an hr NW last night.  I do believe now that the NWs *appear* to be worse the more OT he gets but I don't know how I'll ever get him caught up.  Today I have the electrician in all day so I'm not he'll even get a nap...  which won't help either!

You can only do your best sweetheart, some days naps won't happen (may be try and go for a car ride to give him a short nap?) some days they do...until those teeth come through properly things are going to be a bit mucked up xox

does sound like teeth are def playing a part. I have also resigned myslef to the fact that until they are all through things will be off and there is only so much I can do.

So what are we saying girls then - place your bets now - that when O's teeth are all through he'll sleep all night every night lol!!!  ;D

Electrician was poorly so didn't show - just as well as I can't have DS being sick again.  I put him down for his nap early today and he's been sleeping 1.5hrs so far.

I HATE teeth!

I like having teeth, but I don't like it when they are on their way LOL!  I am certain that once all those molars cut Oliver is going to sleep beautifully all the time, nap like a champion and you will languish in a tropical paradise with coctails and facials on call!!!

We can but dream...would get boring after a while but!

Hugs lovelyx
