Could do with picking all of your brains about bedtime settling now...

So our routine has been looking like
wake 6am (sometimes a tad later sometimes as early as 5.30am)
nap 12-1pm he is woken
bed 6.45pm with a view to being asleep by 7pm(ish)

Now take yesterday - it was nap at 11.50-12.50pm and he was asleep by 7pm (so just over 6hrs A in the afternoon)
Today he woke at 6.30am
nap 12-1pm
bed 7pm and he won't settle...  I know it's only 7.20pm now but if he's going to settle he will do so within 10mins

What do you think.  Normally I wouldn't stress so much BUT tomorrow I *need* him asleep early as I have a major work event in the eve and I really don't want to be worrying about him.  DH is just never quite good enough for O at bedtime - esp. since he's been poorly.

Still not settling so you're not too late!  Just rolling around, trying to get comfy - a bit like what he would do in the middle of the night.

He does that even when he's OT though... that's how I have never managed to work out whether the NWs were related to one or the other!  Love the new avatar BTW - although I keep thinking you have twins!

Sweetie DS often takes AGES to fall asleep too, I'm thinking a lot of it may be this age??!!  He doesn't usually cry, though will often want something, sippy cup his truck etc....I just think sometimes they have a lot to process before they can go to sleep even when they are tired.  Having said that when he was off his meds he WOULDN"T settle for HOURS....it was pretty bad.

Hugs and hope your work event goes ok, don't worry about your DH lovely, he can handle it for one night and so can O even if he doesn't much like it!!

Lizzie, I think you are spot on!  I have problems falling asleep myself and I think unfortunately DS inherited that from me :(  I feel that he needs to be nicely tired and calm before we put him to bed, otherwise he would protest and cry coz he just can't sleep right away.  But then the sleep training since we came across BW has been great and it's still much better now than ever before.  It's just hard work for us moms.  hugsssssss for another day!

Was that day a particularly stimulating one?  For us it can go either way...he may fall instantly asleep if he's physically tired or he may chatter away to himself if it was brain-stimulating.

Laura, glad to hear that things are on the up a bit...you could use some up!
The tweaking never stops!

I don't know is the answer....

I mean I have been STTN which makes a nice change or am waking but saying sod it and going back to sleep :P BUT I am not convinced O isn't awake.  He seems so tired, will still go down for a nap at 11.15am (if I choose to put him down early that is) and we're waking him after an hour.  I have no idea any more what's going on  :-\  I just don't understand why he is *still* so tired if he actually is STTN - what do you think?

hey Laura, hmm perhaps he's still recovering from all the months of bad sleep?  DS also started STTN for about 2 weeks now (but I still ahve big sleeping problems, so I just let him complain and try to go back to sleep) and he does seem to be tired all the time!  Maybe they are always tired but too OT to show?  But he has 39.1C fever this afternoon, so I'm not sure what's going on, maybe teething, maybe more.

hope the STTN continues for us all and you and I get more rest ;) xx

I wonder this with Henry all the time Laura...not so much acting tired but looking tired even after a good night.
