How to wean bedtime milk???
« on: August 28, 2010, 23:34:11 pm »
DD is 19 months old and is officially potty trained.  This has everything to do with weaning the bedtime milk.  She likes the bedtime milk in her sippy and looks for it once the pajamas are on.  However, on nights it takes her awhile to fall asleep (not every night but some) she will need to get up and go potty, more like demand to get up and go potty, for which she then looks to play, gets upset when she can't and takes even longer to fall asleep because she is now OT and OS.  Plus when she's older this could make night time dryness harder to achieve and I believe weaning the milk now will be easier than waiting til later.  Any advice?

We weaned DS milk feed when he was a bit over a year - as he was breastfed I got DH to put him to bed for a few nights, and after his story (when he would usually have the milk) DH got DS to blow out the light instead (he used to get into grobag, have a story, milk then into bot) ... after a few nights I re-joined them for the routine, getting DS to blow out the light and he never looked for milk :)

ps congrats on potty training - we are thinking about it but not got round to it yet!!

wow, im not even thinking about weaning the bedtime milk yet! mind you we arent potty trained either :) have you tried giving it earlier instead so that she wont need to go to the toilet in the night? you might find she still will though even without the bedtime milk?

Ya, I think it's a great idea to do it earlier.  And I'm trying to condition myself to getting the milk in during the day.  I used to give milk before a nap too but stopped that as soon as she was trained because she was waking from her nap early and wanting to use the potty.  I've heard of trying to give all fluids before a certain time in the evening so we will give it a go.  Thanks
