Won't nap anywhere but crib

Hi there,

I'm new here and hoping that someone has some suggestions for me. My 8 month old is a pretty good napper and on a 4+ hour EASY, but will not nap anywhere but in his crib in his room. This is a problem because when we go and visit grandma he will not nap there. Grandma is going to babysit when I go back to work and he will be miserable if he doesn't nap. I have tried to get him used to sleeping in his playpen at home, but he won't nap in his playpen either! Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

How often have you tried him napping elsewhere?  It may take you to go to Grandma's every day for a week or so for nap time to get him used to it.  Would that even be possible?

My son had the hardest time napping anywhere other than his crib for his first year, as well. It can make life difficult! Is there any way that she could babysit him at your house when you go back to work? Just to keep life simple for him?

Perhaps you can try putting the playpen in his room and try to get him to nap in there first. If possible, use a sheet that has his scent on it already and put it in the playpen so it doesn't seem so foreign to him. Does he sleep with a lovey? maybe that can help too...

These are all great suggestions, thanks!  I think I will try the playpen in his own room first, and then we will try grandma's house every day for a week or two (or however long it takes).  Eventually he will get tired enough to sleep, right??
