Acquiring soy protein intolerance???
« on: September 07, 2010, 21:04:45 pm »
My reflux bub (4 mos) is MPI, so I've been off dairy for about a month. I'm EPing (he never latched on well) so I always have formula in the house *just in case* I don't pump enough. Originally it was dairy forumula, then when he threw that up we switched to soy-based formula which he took a few times without a problem.

Skip ahead 2 months, and we gave him one bottle of soy formula again last week just to check that he'll still take it if needed and he threw it up! Tried again and he threw it up again.

Can he have developped SPI between months 2 to 4? It just seems so weird.... Ideas anyone?

(I *am* going off of soy as a precaution, so we'll see what happens. Sigh)

I know that you can develop allergies to thing that you previously had no problems with, so it seems reasonable to me that intolerences would be similar. And something like 40% of babies with MPI also have intolerence to soy so it's quite common.  Have you looked into HA formulas at all?
