Short naps?
« on: September 05, 2010, 18:09:38 pm »
Hi all, just wondering what you all consider to be a short nap? My LO usually has two solid 2hr naps per day. For him, 30 min is OT and 45ish is UT. Every so often, he'll throw me a curveball. This morning, he had a 1hr 10min nap. Should this be considered a short enough nap that I would reduce his next A time? TIA!

No, I think for a 5 month old, 1 hr is a sufficient nap, particularly if it's only occasional and he does longer naps most of the time.

At this age he MAY be able to stay up until his next naptime. or you might try moving both the next nap and bedtime up by 1/2 hr or so. That's why Tracy stresses routine, not schedule, so that you can flex when the babies throw curveballs. :)

Agree.  If its a one off I wouldn't worry about it at all.  If it starts happening over a period of consecutive days then it may be routine needs a tweak but one offs are no big deal!  Think of yourself.  Sometimes you can't get to sleep until later, wake earlier etc.

I'd probably keep the same next A time unless LOs cues were telling me differently especially for one day.  If the nap was cut by 50 minutes and you reduce next A time by say 20 minutes your day is already going to end 1hr 10 mins earlier IYSWIM?

Thanks, ladies! I kept his A time the same, and he handled the rest of the day like a champ!
