undigested food in poo?
« on: September 07, 2010, 18:40:01 pm »
So what's typical as far as undigested food in your baby's poo?  We just started feeding dd some freeze dried pears as her first finger food - I noticed in her poo today what looked like what you see when you eat corn :-X  You know, the undigested chunks ( :-X again!).  I would think that pears should be able to be digested well though, where corn is different (no matter how much you chew, the kernels magically reform somewhere in your intestines to be pooped out intact!!!)

Just want to make sure this is normal or if it's a problem (the undigested pears).  My dd has some serious gut issues that we're trying to figure out, and I'm wondering if she is not digesting her food properly..

thanks for any input!

I don't think it's a problem but might be something to bring up at her next doctor's appointment if you are worried, particularly if you find she has digestive issues already.  I seem to remember though that it's normal for foods to come out the other end looking undigested regardless of what food it is.  :)

I remember being freaked out with this too.  Maybe they weren't digested because they were freeze dried?  I bet fresh pears wouldn't be so bad.  As her digestive system matures, she will digest more and more of finger foods.  But even at 20 months, DS still has undigested food come through sometimes.

I think it has to do with how well they chew.  At first everything DD ate came through in tact.  Maybe she was swallowing more than chewing?
