Switching to solids before liquids - how?!?
« on: September 13, 2010, 05:49:39 am »
hi everyone,

i forget from my first how to make the switch from liquids before solids to solids before liquids. we're on a great EASY routine and i don't want to mess things up. my son is 9 months old and most of what i've read says to switch him to solids first so most of his calories are coming from solids, not liquids. but i can't figure out how to time it all through the day and do i cut back on the oz's in the bottles or do i give the same and see if he'll take it?

here's what we're doing now:

7am - wake up and 7oz bottle
8am - breakfast (rice cereal and fruit)
9/9:30am - nap
11am - 7oz bottle
12pm - lunch (veggies and fruit)
1/1:30pm - nap
3pm - 7oz bottle
5pm - dinner (meat, veg and fruit)
7pm - 8oz bottle and bed

He's napping quite well and sleeping through the night. No teeth yet but teething like crazy for sure!

How do I switch this schedule around??!

Thanks!

Jenny

I didnt ever switch. All that happened was that the daytime feeds reduced and then were dropped and replaced with a snack and drink of water leaving just the am and pm feed by 11 months.

Hi Jenny.  I wouldn't worry too much about it if this routine is working for you now.  Up until a year the liquids are still the main source of nutrition so it's ok to keep them before the solids.  I think you will find that it progresses naturally to solids taking the lead role when your LO is about a year.  :)

My LO is the same age and I do bottle then solids in the morning then switch it . I had to as she wasn't taking her whole bottle in one setting and this way worked better for us. Also we only do 3 bottles a day, Just got her naps back on track but here is her feeding routine:
6:30-up and bottle(8-9oz)
8:30- breakfast( wheat yogert cereal or rice cereal w/ fruit )
11:30- lunch( chicken or turkey/ veggie/ fruit)
1:30- bottle(7-8oz)
4:30-supper( chicken or turkey/veggie/dessert fruit)
6:45-bottle(8-9oz)BED
