Eliminating the Dream Feed
« on: September 16, 2010, 02:16:56 am »
My DD will be 8 months in a few weeks. She's on a perfect 4-hour EASY. She takes 3 naps a day (9-11 a.m., 1-3 p.m. and a CN at 5-5:45 p.m.) and sleeps through the night with a DF at 11 p.m. She's up at 7 a.m. to start the day. We've been slowly decreasing the amount I pump in the evening for the DF for the past few weeks. We're only giving her 1 oz. at this point and I'm wondering when and how we can eliminate it for good.

Although she continues to sleep through the night with the decreased amount, we can tell that she'd prefer to have more than the 1 oz. we're giving her. My husband is the one that gives it to her in a bottle. He picks her up out of the crib and holds her. She wakes a little, but is obviously still very sleepy and relaxed. She goes right back to sleep quietly and quickly. Part of me thinks it's unnecessary to continue with the DF since it's such a small amount (plus I know we're getting close to the age when it should be cut out anyway), but the other part of me is nervous to let it go. I'm afraid she'll miss it and wake up for it.

Should we continue to decrease it more and more? Or is it time to just try to go without it? Any suggestions or similar experiences to share?

Thanks in advance!

Actually, you're past the age where it should be eliminated. Since you're only at 1 oz I would just stop giving it. She may wake at that time expecting it for a few days, and that's normal. You can use shh/pat or whatever method works for you to help her get back to sleep.
