Hi,
I have a DS named Liam, he is 6 months now and he has been waking up at night around 1:30 AM to play. He doesn't cry right away, when he wakes up he starts playing in he crib (we don't have toys or any other items that he could use to play), after a while (30 minutes or so) he cries. When he wakes up I have tried to put him back to sleep right away by doing the shush pat, but it doesn't work, he wants to play and grab my hands. I have tried to let him alone, and come back to the room after a while expecting that he would be tired after playing, but it doesn't work. Then I have tried to pick him up when the shush pat doesn't work, and I put him back to sleep once he is calm, but as soon as I put him down he stats playing again. Lats night he stayed awake from 1:30 to 3:30, and he has been doing this for several days now.
His daily routine is the following:
4 hour EASY
2 hour A time
Two-2 hour naps + one catnap
Total daytime sleep: From 4 hours to 4.5 hours
Total nighttime sleep: 10 hrs. 45 min to 11 hrs.
He is bottle feed (160-180 mls)
Wake up anywhere from 6:30-7:00 but he doesn't eat right away
E 8:00
A 7:00 to 9:00, with a break of 20 minutes to eat at 8:00.
S 9:00-11:00
E 12:00
A 11:00-13:00, with a break of 20 minutes to eat at 12:00
S 1:00-2:30 (some times sleeps just 1 hour or sleeps longer until 3:00)
E 4:00
A 2:30-4:30, depending on the time he woke up.
S 5:00-5:30
E 7:35 or 7:45
A Bath at 7:15 (it last 20 minutes)
S:7:45 or 8:00
E: 11:00 PM (at this time he is taking in average 120-140 mls)
E: 3:00 AM (he just eats 40 to 50 mls, if we give him more he doesn't eat in the morning)
What’s nap routine?
He goes to sleep with the Shush pat, he doesn't use pacifier.
How long are naps?
They go from 2 hours to 1 hour some times.
What's bedtime routine? Time?
He has a bath and then we read a story and then he eats and goes to sleep. I play some music for him to relax.
How many wakes per night?
He wakes up two times to eat, but lately he has been waking up between 1:30 to 3:00 AM to play.
What’s your LO like when waking at night? How long is he/she up?
He seems wide awake, he wants to play. He can stay up for 2 hours.
When you go to him/her is she fussing or crying? Or is it a mantra cry?
He is mantra crying, but if I don't go to see him he star crying angry.
What have you tried to settle??
I have tried the Shush pat, when it doesn't work I have tried the PU/PD but he gets very upset and takes longer to go back to sleep. Sometimes when he wakes up at 2:00 I can do the PU/PD and doesn't go to sleep. I give him the bottle at 3:00 AM and most of the time he goes to sleep right away, but lately he doesn't go to sleep even I give him the bottle.
What do you do for A time and how long is it?
It varies, but I take him out for walks and to visit places at least once a day mainly in the morning. He also spend time in his Excersaucer and play by himself, he also spends time in a small playground where he rolls and moves around safely (it is like a square crib).
Are there developmental issues such as teething or milestones?
We though he was going through teething but we are not sure.
Have you introduced cereal? Why, how much, and how many times a day? (for LO’s under 6 months)
He has cereal in the morning at 8:00 AM, and he is having 2-3 tea spoons. He has veggies at 12:00 2 table spoons, and we are starting to introduce fruit in the afternoon around 6:00 PM.
Do they have a prop? If so what is it?
He needs the Shush pat to go to sleep, if you can call this a prop.
Do they have a lovie?
No lovie for Liam.
I am not sure how I can help my DS to go back to sleep when he wants to play in the middle of the night, we did the PU/PD when he was 4 months and it worked excellent. Before the PU/PD his naps during the day were from 30 to 45 minutes, now he sleeps longer during the day. Now with the night wakings, we have tried to do the PU/PD but he seems to get more awake. What do you recommend we should do?
If you need more information, I will be happy to provide it.
