Just out of curiosity, what does cream of tartar do for the play dough??

It makes it soft and silky, Wendy, and keeps it nice longer. It isn't that noticable at first when it is missing, but after a few days the stuff without cream of tartar starts to dry up and harden a bit, and leaves gunk on your hands. Not enough to make it less fun, though, so leave it out if you want to. I used to make a new batch for my Kindergarten class every week, and always left the cream of tartar out because I had to pay for all of my supplies and I wanted to throw away the dough frequently anyway to cut down on germs in the classroom.

aquadraws are great for mess-free art. Emma copies Ozzie a lot and loves to scribble. In her high chair she can sit alone and "paint" an aquadraw (I give her a little paintbrush and bottom of a cup of water) or 4 for up to 20 mins. With Ozzie at the table beside her, even longer - if they don't fight over the pics that is!

By the way, cream of tartar is in the spice section.

Sorry Wendy, didn't even think of it! Did you get it? If you got it in one of those little boxes you probably overpaid a bit; I get it at the Bulk Barn a few tbsp at a time for icings and stuff. I can't wait to start DS on playdough; I have so many cool little cookie cutters and shaped toys that I have bought at yard sales and my students always liked.
