Passing gas causing NW in 6month old
« on: September 22, 2010, 20:25:12 pm »
I haven't found any info on baby waking up due to gas. My 6 months old BF baby always passing gas day and nights, even before eating solids, doesn't seemed to be bother by the gas for most part. His has NW 2 or 3 times a night and sure enough, I hear him passing gas several time 5-10mins after he wakes up, seemed like a light sleeper, problem is he has a hard time self-settling, and get upset that he got woken up, sometimes patting him on the bum helps other times I have to BF him back to sleep. I think he might have a bit of tummyache with the gas, does not wake up screaming.
I haven't try any gripe water or gas stuff. Anyone have any suggestions to reduce his gassiness at night and therefore less NW due to it? Anyone with similar experiences.
He is healthy, no allergies, no reflux and never really burp after BF despite my best efforts.

have you tried infant massage? there are some great videos on youtube which shows you how to do infant massage. I found that really helped my LO when he was gassy.

Agree with pp. Try it after bath and before bed. Our lo is also very gassy. After night feeds we also pump his legs a little to see if we can get any out. He will grunt and squirm until it passes (same as for burps) and won't settle till it's all out. Such a pain! DS2 also had similar issues. Though it's hard, it does improve with time. I would proceed slowly with introducing new foods to rule out any that are worse for him.
