Not napping well BUT no EW!
« on: September 24, 2010, 06:53:55 am »
All of this week DS has had really awful naps. Monday at nursery 40 mins, Tuesday he did have 1.5 hours at home. Weds 40 mins at nursery and yesterday only 45 mins again. Each night he has had a reasonably early bedtime of 6.30/7 and has gone straight down without the usual babbling. He has slept straight through and we have had no EW. Solid 12 hour nights for the most part.

I am freaking out here that he may need a drop in his naptime when I need him to be having it really!

 Any thoughts?

Oscar was doing this, catnapping Mon-Weds-Fri and proper napping tues-thurs and weekend, from age 2yrs 5 mths when he started pre nursery....then at 2 yrs 8 mths we started three long days at pre N so he didn't nap at all those days....

in a way it was good as I got nice early bedtimes out of him and full 12 hr nights (for a while) when Emma was tiny and her bad moments were always around 6-8pm so I had all the time to concentrate on her....

I would let him be at the moment if you are getting great STTN and just keep an eye out for night terrors, EWing, NWing etc....

Biggest hugs,

S x

 Thanks Shiv.

Not really fussed how long the nap is tbh as long as he as one and is in good spirits for the afternoon. I too really like the early bedtime and I think it'll come in useful when DD comes along.

We have bouts of EW so I'm glad to be rid of those right now. (touch wood  ;) )

how is his cheer in the afternoon?  your ticker isn't showing for me, can you remind me how old he is?

i thought i would go crazy without them napping, but to be honest, it is almost easier without it.  they still do a really quiet 'quiet time' and it works for us....

He's 21 months now. Had nearly 2 hours today but did wake at 45 mins and put himself back to sleep which is what he did for his other longer nap previously in the week too.

He seems ok in the afternoon. Cutting 2 year molars for what feels like forever but again weird as he hasn't EW this week at all.

yeah, 21 months is a bit young to not nap.......

sounds like the molars might be the problem.  we went through that too!  it sucks!

Not complaining too much, it could be worse. Just dreading the day the nap goes!  ;)

My money is on the molars too, Emma.  Kind of feel like I'm posting this on everyone's thread atm, but so much of it sounds similar to what DD's going through, I just have to think all these kiddos that have been trained so well must have something going on!

Anyway, my main point was going to be, naps are always what gets hit hardest here when teething and on occasion nights are tough too.  But, nights have really been not an issue as she's gotten older.  So, it could be that's what's bothering him, but not enough to EW from it?  Just a thought!

I think they have secret phone meetings arranging to have short naps... we are on 40-45min naps here too, yet still 11 hours solid at night.  I feel your pain girls.. i really do!
