Can't use Search
« on: September 30, 2010, 17:05:01 pm »
I am not able to use the search capability, it keep getting the following message:
"You are not allowed to search for posts in this forum. " I am logged in. Are there some settings I need to change somewhere? Thx.

Yes, we had to disable the search feature as it was causing the site to move too slowly.  Hopefully it will be up & running again at some point, but unfortunately we have no timetable for this.  :)

You can use google - if you select advanced options you can have it search only one domain - if you type in babywhispererforums.com google will just search this site for whatever you're looking for :)

Works even better if you use:

site:babywhispererforums.com and then your search words

example:

site:babywhispererforums.com colic pick up/ put down

result:

http://www.google.co.uk/#hl=en&biw=1152&bih=653&q=site%3Ababywhispererforums.com+colic+%22pick+up%2F+put+down%22&aq=f&aqi=&aql=&oq=&gs_rfai=&fp=56ba50c34dd1bcfa

I always just use BW site. Near the search bar is the dropdown. By default it says Entire Forum. It works if you search Entire Site instead... ... is it me that's crashing the system?!?

With the new upgrade to your site, the Search engine is not working and the option to select the Entire Site is not there.  How can I search the site?  Are you planning on addressing this issue?

No, the search function has been disabled for quite some time, and has not yet been enabled.  We still do not have a timetable for this.  Tom (our webmaster) is still working on installing all the plugins that used to work before the upgrade.  Once all those features have returned he will start to work on new functions.  But he, like all the rest of us, is a volunteer and squeezes in work on this site when he can.  :)

at this point, the best way to search the site is to use Google.  on the Google page, you can search for something like 4 month EASY routine site:babywhispererforums.com

Yes. But you can google babywhispererforums and your subject which will come up with lots of suggested threads.
...or post your own question :)

Nice suggestion, it gave me the idea to add Google Custom Search at the top of the page to replace the search.
