6am wake up + 4pm nap + bedtime hell
« on: October 03, 2010, 11:00:06 am »
I thought the 2-1 was bad but now the 1-0 is beginning to be a nightmare!  What do you do when your LO doesn't want to nap til late?

Our routine of late has been wake between 6am and 6.30am (put this down to the sun as we are approaching summer - used to be around 7am), seems to get sleepy around 4-5 hours after wake up (I push him through this), then naptime is 12.30/1pm but he's not asleep til around 1.30pm, will sleep for 1.5 - 2 hours and then bed is 4.5/5 hours after that, so around 7.30-8pm.

However we've been getting days where he won't sleep til around 2pm or will fall asleep on me or the couch between 3.45 and 4.15.  I try and cut this sleep to 30 minutes but then he needs 3.5 hours A time after that before bed.  It concerns me that he is having a 14+ hour day!

We have had problems for the past 3 weeks, since he got ill and the last two molars started erupting, plus I know lots of developmental things are going on, especially language.

How do you phase out the last nap?  Should I be phasing it out?  I do not have a strategy and its bugging me!

so have you tried putting him down after about 5 hours? I would bet this is his molars talking rather than him phasing out the nap but I could be wrong ;)

I agree with Becky, he's very young to be dropping his nap altogether.

Sorry I haven't replied sooner ladies.

So Monday he napped in the car for an hour, slept 3 hours at my mum's on Tuesday and no nap on Wednesday.  Then today he slept 2 hours at my mum's.  He has been a complete bear though today.  I don't know why he didn't nap on Wed with DH . . he put him down at 5.5 hours but he just wanted to play and to be honest, when I got home from work at 5pm he did not appear sleepy or OT at all . . the 3 hour nap the day before probably helped.  And mum's been putting him down at the 5.5/6 hour mark and he's been sleeping fine.

Will see how things go for me at home the next few days . . .

Okay, I'm guessing that he needs a nap for a few days, and then he's going to go a day without a nap.  This seems to be the pattern.  The last two days we've had naps of 2-2.5 hours and today, no nap.

This, I can deal with.   ::)
