How do I know when he is ready for Big Boy Bed?
« on: October 08, 2010, 17:46:27 pm »
We are expecting our 2nd in April and DS will be turning 2 in April as well. DH wants to set up him new room and toddler bed to be able to transition him in when #2 arrives. So we kinda figured we work on his new big boy room now, set up his toddler bed, make it really fun for him.

I don't want to rush him, he is oh so resistant to change, loves his routine and stability. How do I know when he is ready? Do I just start trying naps in the BBB? He loves his crib, has no problems and never tries to climb out but DH wants to start soon so there arent too many changes at once. Any advice?

We are in the same situation and I was ready to put DS into a BBB (we had been abroad in August and he has to sleep in a BBB next to us, but didn't try to climb out once) ... however, DH and my Mum talked me out of transitioning him once we got home (my logic being the same as yours, and doing it while we have the time, and I have the energy!).  I remember my nephew used to climb out of bed sooo many times until he finally went to sleep and wasn't wanting this to happen when LO2 is here!  (my nephew had to go into BBB as he climbed out his cot!!!).

Anyway, we have "decided" to get another cot for LO2 and DS will transition from his cotbed to the bed part once he starts climbing out!!  Hopefully as DS likes his bed he will not have a problem transitioning, and if he does, I have told DH that he is dealing with it, not me!!!
L x Having a bw break from 1 Feb 2012 - if you want to get in touch please send me a pm.  I may not be here but you are all in my thoughts xxxx (probably be back some time)

still happily married, just not counting!

We moved ds into his BBB when he was climbing out of his cot more and more, he has a cotbed so it's still 'his bed' which may have helped. We got a rail for the side as we had a couple of nights of thumps on the floor! We had maybe a few weeks of him realising he's no longer trapped in bed and running round but I went supernanny on him and it worked haha.
