Quick Meal ideas for picky toddler
« on: October 11, 2010, 00:40:26 am »
Madi will be two next month and for the last week she has not been interested in her meals. She is only eating two meals a day now with an evening snack. Is this just another phase?
Today, for instance, she ate:
Breakfast: orange juice with a bowl of cheerios
Snack: not interested
Lunch: a bite of her sandwich and sweet potato
snack: yogurt
Dinner: refused it. Had 5 strawberries and some jello.

She drinks about 10ozs of milk a day.

I think it's just a phase, TBH.  Dylan has gone through cycles like that too - he'll go from eating more than me :o to having a day that looks very similar to yours.  Sometimes I swear that he goes through the day on milk, cheerios, applesauce, and licking the margarine off his bread ::)

I just make sure that I always offer him the option of food at regular intervals: breakfast, lunch, supper, and snacks in between.  But I'm pretty structured about it time-wise - otherwise Dylan would snack all day and not eat a proper meal!  At every meal I make sure that I've offered something that I know he likes.  If he's had a bad eating day, I'm sure to make one of his favourite meals for supper.  But ultimately, all we can do is offer, and if they're hungry they'll eat :)

Yep, here too!  I'd be thrilled if my DS ate what Madi did in a day!!! LOL.  It's an age phase and often comes with teeth as well.

I give him cold lunch meats rolled up - good quality turkey, ham, roast beef as well as balogna. Crackers and cheese.  A good dinner is baked beans (ie/ the kind from a tin) and he eats them cold (gross) and I can cut up meat and hide it inside.  Lots of yogurt, vegetables (loves peas, mini carrots, corn, tiny green beans - anything little he can eat with his fingers out of a little pot).

Like Vikki, I offer at meal and snack times and if he eats great, if not that's his choice!

Isn't she teething molars Sabs?? That is probably your issue.

I let my picky toddler eat whatever he will if he is teething to keep his tummy full and then get us back on track later.

Chicken nuggets are a good standby over here. Quick and easy ones from the freezer to microwave are done in a minute. At least they're substantial and have protein. I try to find the healthiest options when purchasing.

Eggs are fast and easy if she'll go for them. Peanut butter sandwiches. Bagels with cream cheese. I try to think of FAST and simple foods for lunch often.
