camping
« on: October 19, 2010, 23:05:30 pm »
Planning a camping trip with my 21 month old and wondering if anyone who has done so under similar circumstances has tips/ideas for making it go smooth.  Just me, LO and DH for 1 night.

Are you going to be sleeping in a tent or a camper?

Great.  We've only tented in our back yard.  Here's hoping others come on and post with some tips for you.

we've tented with the kids quite a bit.   if the tent is big enough, bring your pack'n'play and have LO sleep there - it is much better that way.   if not, it's only one night so lay with her if need be to get her to sleep on time and enjoy the snuggles :).  we also throw an extra tarp over the rainfly of the tent to make it 'darker' in there for them to settle.

no need for toys, nature provides all the fun you could need in that regard.  :)  even if it rains, it is a good time for playing in the puddles - after all, you are camping.

try to stick to sleep times as best you can - especially bed time, and if you can nap with her - nothing is better than a tent nap on holidays!!!

we always go early in the day if we can, set up long before dinner so there is time to 'play' and explore the tent etc. so it is familiar by bedtime.  keep in mind setting up and meal prep always takes longer than you imagine with a LO around when camping.  When they were smaller, one of us would do unpack/setup while the other supervised kids.

not sure what else i can tell you....are you worried about something in particular?

Wow, Cherie reading that just eased all my worries.  I don't think I have a particular worry but I love the idea of the pack n play in the tent.  This did not even cross my mind.  Great idea! thanks so much
