10.5 hour night with a 20 minute long nap all day!!
« on: October 21, 2010, 17:40:29 pm »
I really don't know where to go with my daughter from here. It seems like nothing works and were in the forever ot loop. I have tried the other ladies suggestions of 6:00 p.m bt and   short/ long nap and it's a losing battle. I'm now getting 4:45 wu even though I'm leaving her in her crib until 5:30. I'm trying a nap at 9:00 waking her up at 9:30 but geting complete nap refual for the rest of the day! today I decided to be brave and try 10:00 nap and see if it works let her sleep as long as she wants  still she was up at 10:30 I left her in her crib until 11:00 and complete nap refusal for the rest of the day. Should I try a later bt? How can I get her to sleep at 7:00 with all the EW and the lack of naps? I feel completely fusratated because no AP works!
I just leave her in her crib because sometimes I feel so desperate for a break but her screaming is no peace for me. Basicly I had10.5 hour night with a 20 minute nap!
I don't know how to get this under control before baby 2. I just do not know why my toddler will not sleep. My daughter has always been up at the 45 minute one hour mark since she's been born.

Thanks for the reply.

The last few days have been Bt 6:00
wake 4:45 but stayed in crib and played until 5:30
Tried for nap at 9:00 a.m played in crib fell asleep at 10:00 up at 10:45 tried for nap again at 2:00 was showing no signs of sleeping by 2:30 bt 6:00 p.m
Today we are awake at 4:55 a.m stayed in crib until 5:30  stayed awake until 10:00 a.m in hope of a longer nap  wake awake by 10:55 I tried twice for another nap a no go.
On Monday  she slept 11 hours so I tried for a  9:00 a.m waking her up at 9:30 in hope of a long afternoon nap and it was her only nap all day.
I would like to try maybe a 7:00 p.m bt but I'm lost with ot now. she's 16.5 months old. I feel like I can't seem to get it right with DD. She's an independent sleeper so I'm not sure where the problem is.

We had very similar when DS was going through the 2-1 and just had to go cold turkey to one nap other wise we had your exact problem - 30mins sleep all day.

We started with an 11am nap no matter what time he woke and then early bed (6pm) if he short napped.  Yes you will have to ride it out for a bit but it at least stops you going insane! ;)

Thanks Laura. I was doing the 11:00 a.m nap for about two months but it never seemed to lenghten past one hour. I'm sure  she was OT but maybe we are still in the 2 to one transition.   I just have to stick to my guns with a 6:00 p.m bt and 11:00 a.m nap no matter how  short her nap.
I have to say 5:00 a.m wu and 30 minutes naps are insane for a pregant lady. lol

I didn't realise you'd tried the 11am nap for so long.  In which case I am going to suggest the opposite to what I normally would - give I read you have also tried an earlier nap.  I would go for a noon nap and see what happens, I know there are some LOs who go straight from 2 naps to one nap with a 7hr A time and then sleep 2hrs+ but they *have* to have that long morning A time.  Do you think that's worth a shot?

I never thought to try a noon nap. I'm going to give a go for it today. I have nothing to lose! lol  My lo has always been more awake then other babies her age.Do I still stick with a 6:00 bt ? It seems at 6:00p.m she will sleep 11.5 hours straight. Last night I tried putting her to bed a 7:15 and she was still up at 5:25 a.m playing in her crib.
Can I ever get her on a 7:00p.m bt with a later wake up or do some lo's up early no matter the Bt?

I think it will happen but this is a tricky time. My lo never napped well until he was on one nap. Now we do get plenty of rubbish naps but generally they are good and his bedtime is 7/7.30pm whereas up to the age of 18 months it was 6.30pm. x

This was us.  We had to put Finn on 1 nap by 12 mths for daycare and he was a nap refuser and EW (still is!) like your DD.

How old is she?
The tweaking never stops!

She's 16.5 months old. Today I kept her up until 12:00 noon and she slept for 1 hour and 40 minutes which is a huge improvement but we have been up since  5:30a.m. I never dreamed she go go that long at a young age. I have to say seven hours is a long activity time for me! I would love a 7 to 7 routine but I guess my dd is not going to follow it for the moment. I'm really hoping baby number two will be more textbook angel.lol

I had  another 4:30 ew I  was so tired I took her in my bed bad habit but she fell asleep until 7:00a.m so she is tired in the morning. I really don't know what to do with these ew and short naps. Should I just leave her in her bed or get her up after a certain amout of time?  We another  hour nap at 12:00 today. I'm not sure she know's how to go into the other sleep phase for naps because this always seems to wake up at the 45 minute mark expect for yesterday was the only day she had a good nap in a really long time. I just can not figure this kid out

You had a much shorter A time before the nap this morning so I'm not surprised you had a shorter nap, esp. as she had a lie in.  I would try a 6hr A time before nap and see what happens...

We had a 5:45 wu this morning and then I kept her up until 12:15 and we had a nice long 1 :45 minute nap!! yeah! We were in bed by 6:30 p.m
I'm so happy it seems my lo needs is 6 to 7 hours activity in the morning to get a good nap.
Thank you for all your help Laura hopefully, we will be back on track now.

Great news!!  Just watch for OT signs - nap shortening or night shortening and if that happens you may just need to cut the A time back to 5.5hrs for a few days.
