Resisting naps
« on: October 25, 2010, 09:05:24 am »
My lo is almost 18 weeks old and has an A time of about 2 hours. He usually goes down for his first nap at about 9am easily, maybe with a little patting but in the last couple of days has started screaming and screaming when I put him down. Soemtimes, if I put him down on his side and pat him he will settle but today I had to get him up and hold him to sleep as he was in such a state. He settles brilliantly at bedtime, I feed him, lay him down and leave and he drifts off alone within 5/10 mins. Why has he started doing this? Is it developmental?  ???

It sounds like he's a good independent sleeper, so I'm thinking it's routine-related.  When was the last time he had an A time increase?  Maybe he's needing some more before he's ready to go down for a nap, and is crying to let you know he's not sleepy.  Just a thought :)  I'd try adding 5-10 minutes onto his A time and see how that goes.

HTH!

Will try that tomorrow - he is in nursery tomorrow afternoon so they always keep him up longer than me anyway! He has gone 2.5 hrs happily before so maybe that is the problem :)
