NIGHT FEED FOR A 14MONTHS OLD :-( HEEEELP!
« on: November 01, 2010, 09:53:37 am »
Dear babywhisperers,

So my son, who has NOT fed in night at all since he was 6months old and has been on EASY since just a few weeks old is such a terrible teether!! Teething has messed up sooo much for us and one of the things is eating.
He ll go for days with no eating at all, only to wake up in the middle of the night hungry!
What has this mom done? Yupp you guess it right, APOP!:-/
Or else I would have had a screaming kid for the rest of the night....
He has refused his bottle for the past couple of months both in the evening and in the morning (which i know is a good thing, lol) but he finishes it within 2 min in the middle of the night when he is hungry.

SOOOOOO We are still teething!! (I hate it!)

Do I wait till all of his teeth are out or do i try to make a change now?
This has been our reality for weeks now and i can´t have him eat enough in the day/evening no matter WHAT i try... and i´ve tried it all trust me!

And how am i ever gonna wean him from this now?

It truly sucks to have been sucessfully on EASY for so long only to take what feels like 10steps back now :-(

(((hugs))) no real advice except that at 14 mths he needs a lot more than what a bottle can provide.  Are you medicating for teething?  Any chance he will drink a smoothie or something with protein and calories in it?  Can you post what his meals are looking like now...what his favourite foods are.  Maybe we can come up with something.
The tweaking never stops!

I was thinking same as Wendy - will he take a smoothie - even one in a bottle if necessary? Eat oatmeal or porridge? Eat on the go - like in his stroller or anything?

Thanks both of you!!:-)

Yes I have been medicating for teething but since we are teething with 8 teeth at the same time and over the past many weeks i have not been giving meds everynight... only when he has fever and extreme pain...
(I know its hard to belive 8 teeth at once, but he is even blue on his gumms and it seems like his gums are way to hard for the teeth to come out easily, poor thing)

So, i have not tried smoothie so thats a good ide but i need a recepie.
He will eat fruit tho on most days. So fruits are not an issue really...
He has never eaten by spoon since he started eating as i guess it hurts his gums so he ll have some yogurth by spoon sometimes but mostly he uses his fingers... so he has not been eating mashed food.
He has also refused his bottle as i mentioned earlier and drinks only water from his cup so if i try to change water for milk or juice he refuses to drink it!
And I know i should not be complaining but i doubt a smoothie can change that unless it is super yummy!:-) Maybe(?)

He doest eat on the go as he is in day care and gets 3 of his meals (including fruits, yogurth and warm food) as well there... i cant´t tell you how many times his launch box has been returned full, just the way i made it as he has not wanted to eat...

THE GOOD NEWS IS,
the past 2 nights (since i wrote this, how typical is that, lol)
He has eaten better in the day and evening and has not woken up for food before 5am in the morning!! So thats progress and gives me hope and makes me worrie less...
Now if only I could get used to sleep too when he finally sleeps through some nights... Sigh!

Ps. His favortie food varies a lot, one week he ll eat only cheese and nothing else while next he ll refuse cheese and love banans that he was refusing the week before... So Favorite is impossible to tell.

He eats breakfast, lunch, a meal between lunch and dinner, dinner and supper.
Thanks again!!!XOXO
