How to sneak in fresh fruit? Tips, suggestions, recipes please
« on: November 06, 2010, 13:18:57 pm »
Its amazing how such little fingers can already differentiate between carbs, meat, veggies and fruit. How is it that at 13 months he already throws the veggies aside and just refuses to eat fresh fruit after previously loving it? He adores his carbs and meat though! Sigh, and to it begins!

I've got lots of good recipes that hide veggies but what can I do about fresh fruit? Not too keen on cooking fruit as it just brings out all the sugars and every-so-often I do fruit sandwich (banana pressed into bread) hoping you wonderful people will have some tips and tricks to getting fruit into the little tike

xoxo

It might be a texture thing and perhaps really a temporary thing, just a wee phase. I would puree the veg into sauces (for spaghetti, mash, etc) and make yoghurt and fresh fruit smoothies.

One other thing that works is to arrange it nicely on the plate. Make the veg into a smiley face, etc.

DS likes dried cranberries and raisins, etc; we also puree fruit and mix into yogurt, etc.  We also puree melon and mix with a bit of water then freeze as ice-lollies.

DS sometimes doesn't like textures of fruit but we found that by making melon ice lollies he then got used to the taste and now enjoys cubes/slices of melon, whereas at first he wouldn't even put it near his mouth! He doesn't usually like watery foods ...
