Dream Feed and new EASY routine
« on: November 09, 2010, 22:22:37 pm »
Hi,
I was on day 2 of the new EASY routine for my formerly cosleeping, fall asleep nursing, night snacking 7-month-old and she slept fine until 10:00 PM, then woke crying.  I was working toward a 10 or 11 dream feed, but didn't want to do it at 10 when she woke because she was not asleep.  I tried from 10-11:00, thinking that if she finally fell asleep at even 10:50, then I could do the dream feed at 11:00 (I believe this is the latest it should be done).  But she was still not asleep at 11:00, so I went ahead and fed her from awake and she promptly fell asleep and kept eating (as has been her way in the past) [the day-1 dream feed was absolutely no problem].  The wonderful thing is that she then slept from 11:30 to 7:00AM at which point we woke her.  I am not sure if this will happen again, but want to know if this is okay, or if it's better to feed her after she's asleep, even if it's midnight before that happens.  I know it worked last night, but am leery because I'm basically feeding her to sleep and think she might expect a feed after crying for 1-hour or any amount of time.  Thoughts?

Honestly, when Dylan woke around dream feed time I just fed him then.  I understand why you chose not too, given that you're trying to break a nurse-to-sleep habit, but for me it wasn't worth the trouble to try and get him back to sleep only to do a DF and possibly wake him :-\

How is she sleeping during the day?  Do you nurse to sleep for naps or does she fall asleep independently?  What about bedtime?  I found that as long as Dylan was falling asleep without nursing most of the time, nursing to sleep through the night didn't become that much of a problem for us.  The trick was that I didn't feed at every single wakeup if it wasn't hunger.  If Dylan was going 3h between feeds during the day, I wouldn't feed before 3h at night too, kwim?

She's sleeping really well during the day now.  She is also never nursing to sleep during the day, just that one time (well, since Sunday when we started the new routine) at night before the 'dream feed.'  That's very reassuring to hear that you didn't have any problems with the occasional starting-awake-night-feed.
Thanks so much
