Sippy cup and going to 2 "meals" a day
« on: November 17, 2010, 18:05:07 pm »
Just wondering when you are introducing a sippy cup? C is only 5 months old but I thought I'd try for him to play with it (if nothing else). Also, Caleb has been taking 1 oz (ice cube worth) of food per day for 2 weeks now. He has done well on a wide variety of foods (waiting 4 days to introduce). I am wondering if he could go to 2 feeds a day (breakfast and dinner). What are you all doing? I knwo that many are waiting 6 months but my ped is now recommending earlier to avoid allergies and start slow. We still want to ensure he poops well and eats plenty of milk. So just wondering how long you all took to introduce more than one feeding a day.

Thanks

I switched both my kids to a sippy very early (4-5 months) as they were not happy with even the fastest flowing nipples.  If they hadn't have been unhappy about it, I may never have bothered until they were older.  As for solids, we did pears from about 5-5.5 months as "breakfast" and started addding lunch a couple of weeks later and supper a few weeks after that. I think by 7-8 months they were on 3 solids meals a day.

We had to add some prune juice for Spencer to keep her regular, but I think that had more to do with the hidden milk in my diet when I was BF, because once she was on soy formula and just fruits and veggies, her bm's were just right.

Thank you, we might try something else tonight. Something he already has tried before. My other son had major constipation issues but I went by his lead too much. He loved solids and ate way too much. I think we will stay at one cube per feed for awhile until I know he will continue to do well with breastmilk.

Thank you again!

I began offering Wesley a sippy at 6 months or so and only at "meal" times. He just played with it for a while but by 7 months he loved it. He had trouble with the tip up cups and learned really fast with the straw type cups. As far as more than one feeding a day, I'd say at 7 months we did breakfast and dinner. Hope he continues to enjoy eating!
