I think my toddler is pretending to be poorly
« on: November 19, 2010, 11:14:02 am »
My toddler have the TV on with a blanket and pillow if he's not feeling well.  Lately I've noticed the instances of feeling poorly are increasing.  Could he be pretending so he can have a lazy day?  He's 3 in January and attend nursery twice a week and I take him to a playgroup twice a week.  He seems to enjoy playing and running around there.  I try playing with him, switching off the TV and structured activity but his just seems to not want to move.  Today he won't even get up to fetch his juice which is literally three steps away.

Do you think this is genuine or do toddlers get lazy when they're at home?

What if you swapped the TV for books, does he still want to lie down quietly/cuddle? If not then I'd suggest it's 'pretend'.

A bad part of me says 'encourage it', think of the peace and quiet for you.

But yeah, sounds as if he could be pretending.

LOL!  It's tempting especially having a difficult time with my 12 wo!  Tried the books which he wanted but then the cheeky so and so turn on my tv so suspect it is a play up!  Switch off and on war ensued so now he's playing with cars!

The trick is not to let him know you're on to him, so that you can go along with the pretence when it suits you LOL.
