:P Thanks - I think! What have we let ourselves in for ??? Well I have tried letting him cry a bit a couple of times today, but the cries only escalated until I couldn't bear it any more... wasn't even for that long, just sounded too desperate... Then again, he doesn't do this at night, and very very occasionally he has transitioned sleep cycles during a nap - without this kind of crying. As for settling skills - I don't know, it seems that now he either settles completely independently (but with me still in the room), or he just doesn't settle at all, whatever I do. He did used to get there eventually with shh/pat but now I think it only 'works' when he's just exhausted himself and would have probably zonked out anyway! I guess we'll just have to walk slowly towards that light (!) - although I'm not sure we have all that much control over the speed :) How do people do this more than once?? Anyway, enjoy your hols :)

OK, last post...got to go pack.

So it would seem its not a self settling cry. I didn't mean that you should wait too long, just a min or two to see if he was just transitioning, I know that feeling of not being able to bear it! Man, I used to cry when he cried! Your LO is still learning....keep going with developing your shh/pat...it will come in handy later.

And I have no idea how anyone does this more than once (what idiots!) although I hope you will remind me of this when I pop out the next one.

The light, the light...
