Different times for eating/ sleeping
« on: November 22, 2010, 17:27:27 pm »
Hi everyone!
I'm just wondering if it's okay to let my baby sleep in?  If our day starts an hour later or an hour earlier (if my LO wakes early), it is okay to adjust my day accordingly?  Does my DS need to eat/sleep at around the same times everyday?  Is it okay to just go with the flow when my LO wakes or should I be waking him?

Thanks in advance for your input!

I'd say so yes. DS was a very inconsistant waker in the morning and we just adjusted our day to that. Now that he's a wee bit older he's more consistant though which is great for us now.

Its not so much that your LO needs to these things at the same time every day as much as when he needs to do it kwim? Naptimes and bedtimes should be according to your LO's cues. I would however keep feeding every 3 hours ( or 4 if your bub is older), that way you are getting calories in during the day. I would also try to bot your your bub nap for longer than 2 hours as this can rob from night sleep unless they are particularly OT.  :)

I agree with Emma. Some people would say its better to keep the routine within a 30 min range. However, depending on the age of your LO, its good to go with the flow too...the key thing is sticking to the EAS order and avoiding any accidental parenting. Your LO can't read a clock but they figure out pretty quickly the ritual of their day, what comes next, if its kept fairly consistent. This helps them to feel safe, relaxed to know what comes next.
